Moss Deyong started Deyong's Shoe & Leather Repair in downtown Newport News in 1953. The business primarily serviced the thousands of employees of Newport News Shipbuilding with quality repair for their workboots. By 1955, Deyong's added retail goods to meet the demands of the workers by carrying products such as wallets, handmade leather goods, shoe care products, and even basic wellington style workboots.
By the late 1950's, spurred on by numerous customer requests, Deyong's expanded its offerings into western wear items, mainly boots. The collection steadily grew to include a general line of western boots, leather belts, and even cowboy hats. For the next 15 years, Deyong's would slowly evolve into more of a retail store than a repair shop.

Was gifted a pair of boots from this store for Christmas. They were slightly too big and I wore them once with a thick pair of socks to see if they could work. They were still too big. I attempted to exchange them in person for half a size down and after looking at one shoe they said no. I presented with the original receipt, packaging, and both shoes in great condition with very minimal wear from the ONE use. Not only that but they didn’t offer for me to try on a different pair of boots in the correct size or see their selection so I could possibly find something that worked for me. Uncomfortable

Excellent store that came highly recommended from respected coworkers. The store is broken up in two sections. The first part of the store has clothing, book bags, coveralls, and even cowboy hats. The second half of the store has steel toe, composite toe, standard work boots, hats, and shoe insoles. The staff is mainly women who are very polite and frequently check on all guest making sure that they are finding the items they came for. Due to Covid-19 shipping delays they did not have the steel toes I was looking for but I was instructed I could get them ordered but it would be a slight delay.

I had a hard time finding the boots that I liked all of yet all of the boots were just on point but I like a pair of boots that last me 2-3 years. the staff was not rushing me getting me whatever I asked for wide sizes, half sizes. I finally ended up with a pair of Ariat boots that I could not be happier with at a great price with a friendly smile to bat thank you deyong's

Found this place online looking for cowboy boots. The website didn't show much, but I read the only review on Yelp & decided that it was worth a shot to check it out. I'm glad I did. Cute store, helpful & friendly employees. The selection isn't big, but I found something that I liked. Yes, I could have gotten it online cheaper but it was support small business Saturday & I got to take it home and wear it right away.
