For over 100 years, BSP and its predecessor, Pacific Foundry, have engineered and built hundreds of multiple hearth furnaces with installations operating all over the world on numerous processes. During the early 1900's Pacific Foundry Company started producing multiple hearth furnaces for ore roasting applications.
Around the same time, Nichols Engineering obtained patent rights to the Herreshoff furnace which soon became the industry standard. Nichols partnered with Pacific Foundry for its capabilities in detailed mechanical design, manufacturing, and construction; thus allowing Nichols to focus on process design.

Services
The BSP multiple hearth furnace has set the standard for dependable performance in hundreds of industrial installations worldwide since the first unit went operational in 1902. Designed for reliability, quality product, and minimized operating and maintenance costs; our rugged systems operate safely while satisfying the most stringent air pollution requirements.
A new BSP multiple hearth furnace reflects over 100 years of furnace design and innovation. A well maintained BSP furnace can last upwards of 40 years and you can improve the performance of your unit by upgrading its existing systems. Proper operation is important to maintain the longevity of the furnace, and keep maintenance costs to a minimum, but operation is crucial for providing a quality product.
A unique high volume processing method, the BSP multiple hearth furnace offers size flexibility, precise temperature and atmosphere control, maximum heat exposure, and considerable process versatility at low operating and maintenance costs. A cylindrical, refractory lined steel shell supports a series of refractory hearths, one above the other.
Each hearth forms a distinct chamber where process conditions can be varied. Heat, steam, and reducing agents can be selectively applied to control a process. Multiple process steps such as drying, calcining, incinerating, and cooling can be performed simultaneously in the same furnace. Within a BSP multiple hearth furnace, oxygen rich or starved environments can be established.
A cost effective alternative to the high cost of new granular activated carbon, a BSP Carbon Regeneration System recycles spent activated carbon. Our units vary in size from 6' O.D. to 25'- 9 O.D. and are designed to minimize carbon loss and maintain carbon quality. Developments by BSP in the area of carbon dewatering and thermal control systems have increased capacity and saved clients operational capital.
