J & J Oriental Rug Gallery is a family run business located in Alexandria, Virginia, stemming from five generations of family expertise. With our roots established in Isfahan, Iran, we have been firmly entrenched in the Persian and Oriental rug marketplace in Northern Virginia since 1978. Rugs are in our blood and have been for decades.

During the late 1970's when the Shah was dethroned, family members Joshua and Joseph came to the United States to continue their studies in Civil Engineering at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. During that time, they lived with their uncle, who also owns an Oriental rug gallery, and learned the rug business from him.

J&J Oriental Rug Gallery has an amazing choice of beautiful Persian rugs. We bought many rugs from Joshua who will describe them with passion and always welcome you warmly to have a look and a cup of tea. We had one rug sent for repair and it was so well done that we could not see the difference. It is a pleasure to just go to have a look and a chat or eventually to acquire a nice rug.

J&J Oriental Rug Gallery has a fantastic selection of modern (among other) rugs and had exactly what I was looking for to compliment the mid-century styling in my new home. Very helpful and informative staff and a fair price to boot. Why waste money on something that won't last or roll the dice with an online seller (and hope your rug doesn't shed all over the house) when this gem is located right here in Old Town? If you're looking for a quality hand-woven wool rug, do yourself a favor and give them a look.

I have been coming to J&J for nearly every rug in my home. I cannot overstate the pleasure it is to work with the team there. They are the kind of professionals that will do absolutely whatever they can to make sure you are comfortable and confident with your purchase. They’ve flipped through hundreds of rugs with me, brought several to my home and even moved my furniture and laid it back out so I could see a rug come to life. The best ever rug buying experience at J & J! We traveled 3 hours to go to this store and it didn't disappoint. The store was super clean, spacious and it has a huge variety of different style rugs to choose from. Joshua, one of the owners, is who helped us. He was super kind, knowledgeable and a true master of his trade. He even kept our kids occupied while we were looking around and ended up gifting them 2 small rugs of their choice! Needless to say the kids were thrilled. We bought 3 beautiful rugs at very reasonable prices and we couldn't be happier. Thank you J&J! We'll be back.

I have owned rugs from j&j for more than 35 years. They were beautiful when I bought them and they still are. Joseph and Joshua were extremely helpful in helping me select what would be best for my home and I think I got exceptionally good rugs for the price I paid. They could not have been better in helping me. And they were fun to deal with!! I have bought rugs since then in markets overseas but they have never been the same quality—probably because I didn’t have the same guidance.

Visiting Old Town Alexandria for the first time and just happened to be walking by J & J. We live in a more rural location, and I am usually limited to buying rugs online, so it was such a treat! There is nothing like seeing them in person. The owner was so helpful and patient to show us rug after rug until I fell in love with one I had to have. Even though this shop is a couple hours from our home, I know I will return the next time I’m in the market for a rug. J & J’s selection, quality, and service were wonderful, and I was very pleasantly surprised by their prices.

I recently contacted Joseph at J & J for cleaning my two room size Chinese rugs. They had not been professionally cleaned in 35 years and were showing it. It was a bit nerve racking to send the rugs out since they have a high sentimental value. The finished product is amazing. The rugs look brand new and the colors are as bright as they were 35 years ago. They also treated the rugs for moth control and fixed the fringe. I am very pleased with the work and with the outcome. Joseph appraised the rugs for insurance purposes and provided me with a written professional written appraisal.

J & J (Joseph and Joshua) have the best selection and service for high quality Persian rugs in the area. Our experience has run from classic design Persian carpets for my wife and I to modernish rugs for our two grown daughters. The daughters come from their homes in Florida and California to purchase, repair rugs and even resize some of their runners.

My wife and I retired from a 30 year military career, in which posted to many exotic places around the world, including the Far East and the Middle East. We were exposed to and became great fans of Chinese and Persian rugs and have about 12 in our home. It fits perfectly in this space in my Old Town house, rich color, contrast in the sun, and just the right thickness, and temperature (cool in the summer, warm in the winter).
J&J's is patient, and has amazing customer service and selection, and I'll definitely be shopping and having my carpets cleaned or serviced with them.
They're in a walkable area (King Street) and it is very safe (including during this pandemic) and hospitable

I have recently purchased several rugs from J&J and I highly recommend their store. I started out buying just a couple of small rugs but then decided I wanted a 10' diameter round rug for my dining room, which has a round table. After showing me what they had, and even bringing some rugs to my house (40 mintes away) to see in the room, my ideas evolved and I asked for more choices. Joseph spent quite a bit of time and effort scouring his contacts and came up with exactly what I had hoped for. Of course the one I chose ended up being considerably more expensive than the first ones
