When there are few if any areas of agreement between spouses, it is important to properly prepare for the contested divorce. If there are several contested issues or you and or spouse simply lack the civility necessary to proceed without a third party, it is probably in your best interest to retain an attorney up front.
When a marriage relationship ends, there are financial and family issues to resolve. In some instances the spouses are in agreement regarding the dissolution, division of assets and liabilities, and issues of custody, child support, spousal maintenance and more. The amount of time the child spends with each parent is determined by parenting time. The amount of parenting time is one of the considerations in determining child support. Parenting time can be modified by the best interests of the child standard; however, if the modification is too extreme, a higher standard may be necessary.
