Baja-Mex Insurance Services, Inc. is a service oriented company providing complete Mexican Insurance and Tourist Information for those traveling to and from Mexico. Baja-Mex Insurance Services, Inc. was founded by Fred B. Sobke and Jesus Monzon in 1974. Fred B. Sobke graduated from San Diego State University in 1974 with a degree in accounting from the business school at San Diego State University. Jesus Monzon graduated from Cal Poly Pomona in 1974 with a degree in architecture.
In addition to our primary business of Mexican Auto, RV, Aircraft, and Marine Insurance sales, we also offer the largest Currency Exchange (pesos to dollars/dollars to pesos) in the San Diego/Tijuana area. We are dedicated to providing you with sufficient insurance coverage for your visits to Mexico.
For over 47 years, Baja-Mex Insurance has provided travelers to Mexico with Mexican Car Insurance. Driving in Mexico is fun, and Mexican Insurance is affordable. Make sure to have the proper coverage while enjoying your trip to Mexico. Getting the proper insurance for driving in Mexico is quick and easy with Baja-Mex Insurance.
First, Mexican insurance is not mandatory for you to travel into the immediate cities and towns along the U.S./Mexico border, but in the event you are involved in an automobile accident, there are basically only two ways to resolve this and that is to pay all damages on the spot in cash (who normally carries thousands of dollars of cash on them?) or you can prove your financial responsibility by having in your possession a Mexican Insurance policy.
It is a good idea to have some foreign currency with you before you leave the U.S., to cover immediate expenses such as taxis, meals, or tips. You can avoid the hassle of exchanging currency upon arrival to Mexico as some airports and small towns don't have exchange offices, or could be closed when you arrive.

I lived in Baja California when my children were young, so i drop down from California to visit sometimes. Evelina in the San Ysidro office made it so easy to get covered for my recent visit. I felt confident and was grateful for her being so clear as to what to do; it's been many years since i was there, so i sometimes forget protocols that apply to Mexico. A huge 'Gracias!' for Evelina's wonderful help!! - Beth.

I'd give zero stars if I could. Tried to exchange currency here yesterday & masked booth boy demanded my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. Starting to wonder if the main purpose of these "casas de cambio" is to rip off gringo Social Security Numbers and sell them. You might as well check the box that says "Yes! Identity Theft, please." No way they're ever getting mine.

Drive-thru service to exchange dollars to pesos. Convenient. No car insurance this time but have purchased. Years ago my friend's car was stolen in Rosarito and honest to God she was paid out the value of the car within weeks. The only hassle was obtaining the police report from the Rosarito police department so I guess I should spend a few bucks next timw for peace of mind and for coverage. My insurance does not cover Mexico.

We thought the process of getting car insurance for a few days in Ensenada was a painless process. $38 for 3 days. There was not too much of a wait, and the employee was helpful and straight forward. Thankfully we didn't have any issues that required using the insurance coverage. Would recommend to friends and family!

Quick efficient Nothing fancy, but they got the job done. I did not do a good job of comparing this place to Others, but they were convenient and good customer service. I can't stress enough how important it is to get Mexican Insurance. Their judicial system is napoleonic, "guilty until proven innocent" so not having proper insurance puts you on the wrong side of the law should an accident happen,,,

Given that I only exchanged $50 and I found out that in Tijuana, everywhere takes USD including just restaurants for Locals since all the receipt has USD right below Peso cost. Service was quick through Drive-Thru. There's exchange rate shown outside. Next Day, while driving in TJ, I saw that the rate was about 0.1~2 higher (18.1ish vs 18.0ish) in some currency exchange but for $50 that's not much of a difference. It is right by the freeway entrance which made it easy to hop back on to the freeway. I may use them again, then again Fairfield Hotel in TJ had currency exchange service

Great company. We mainly use them for Car Insurance for Mexico but we have used them a few times for exchange from Dollars to Pesos.
Ignore reviews about currency should be more than just USD and Peso since the business is supply for local demand not much need for another currency.
Ignore the review on the parking lot, who cares. It's the busiest exit next to the busiest border crossing port next to an Outlet mall and stores meant for people crossing. Can't fault them on a parking lot when that doesn't reflect their business. They give you free parking for their tiny lot while

How do you claim to be a legit currency exchange when all you exchange is pesos? I'm in the military and tried to exchange bahraini money for USD and was told "sorry, only USD and pesos." This IS a military town after all, you might want to think about being useful to everyone and not just cater to your people only. Military personnel visit other countries and may come back with pretty much any type of currency and if you claim to be a legit currency exchange you better be able to change whatever i have on me. Sorry for the rant folks but i'm a little irritated as this was my

I've been coming regularly to the area for the past five years, and have been parking here for just as long. Normally, I've stopped by here in the evening time, parked my car for a rate of $5, and crossed into Tijuana.
Lately, they raised their fee to $20 on weekends, and $6 for weekdays. That still seemed ok to me, considering that waiting in line back into the US via automobile can take hours.
The other day, I stopped by here in the daytime. I paid $6 for parking. I then asked to use their restroom, to which they claimed they did not have one open. The son of the owner claimed it was

Convenient and popular - for insurance and currency exchange. You can drive through or park and walk in. Their exchange rate is better than what TravelEx, BofA, and Wells Fargo offer - and with no fees, and no wait. If you want to stand in a long line, there is a slightly better rate near the trolley stop but there is no parking, so if you are driving (especially into Mexico) this is probably the fastest, easiest, and least hassle free place to convert US Dollars into Mexican Pesos and/or get Mexican insurance if you need it.

Last time I came here to exchange USD's to pesos. Their rates were supposedly the best so I used them instead of the other businesses around that area. A drive-thru concept made me feel sketched out at first but it's pretty legit. I plan on using them again and next time I'll get my insurance here as well.
