Services
Not only do we strive to introduce people to a new, creative hobby, but we also seek to provide a social outlet for sewers of all ages in a laid back atmosphere. Five Eighth Seams, LLC encourages learning in a fun, low-key environment and provides rental opportunities for those who need machines and other equipment.
Club is a monthly class designed to help you get to know your machine. Meet other Viking owners, and learn about feet and accessories. We pick fun projects and fun fabric. We cut out the kits so there is minimal cutting in class. The class is perfect for anyone interested in learning how to sew, have never had formal instruction, or are new to machine sewing.

Took the Basic sewing class in preparation for taking more advanced classes. Done in the evening when it was nice and quiet. Teacher was very friendly and helpful. Even though i consider myself an advanced beginner, i was glad to have a more experienced person to check over my machine and the things I may or may not have been doing correctly. I am already enrolled in the next set off classes. I can understand that 5/8 requires sewers have a good understanding of basic skills butI hope there will be more advanced technique classes in the future. All and all worth the time and money

With a beautiful and very extensive collection of fabrics and the most gracious and kind group of employees, my visit to Five Eighth Seams was so much fun! I’m from out of town and have been wanting to visit this fabric shop for a long time. I finally got the chance and was not disappointed at all! I purchased several pieces of fabric and can’t wait to return. You will not be disappointed!

I've frequented this store for 10 years and can't believe I'm just now leaving a review. I am still an amateur because I don't have much time to devote to sewing right now, but when I do, the staff is so helpful, kind, and patient. I've taken a few classes and have learned so much. There are so many fun and unique fabrics that I often spend way too much time trying to decide what fabric I want to use! Prices are good and there is a large selection of fabrics, machines, and other necessities. A must-go!

I always have a great experience at Five Eighth Seams! I really appreciate that they carry more than just quilters cottons and Big 4 patterns, and I have found beautiful apparel fabrics and cute indie patterns here. When I do buy quilters cotton, the quality is very clearly a step up from what you’ll find at bigger chains. The staff is incredibly helpful and goes out of their way to make sure their customers always find what they need. Definitely a little on the pricey side, but that is to be expected of a local shop, and the quality of the products and customer service is well worth it!

I absolutely love this place. As soon as you walk in the door it feels like you're at home. Everyone is so nice and ready to help. They are very knowledgeable about what you may need for whatever project you may be working on. They are always ready to help you with any questions you may have. I have taken the just basics and now I am in the sewing 101 5 week class, both with Michelle. After 101 I will be in the knits class, also with Michelle who is pretty darn awesome by the way. She is a great teacher, very knowledgeable and patient. I'm pretty sure I'll be taking classes here for a while, I

Love this place! It's a little tricky to spot if you don't know where you're going but once you find the tiny corner it on, the staff and fabric/notions are perfect! I came here looking for a spot that I could buy fun new fabric and patterns in an effort to avoid Joann's and boy am I happy I found 5/8th Seams! Super helpful staff and great collection of fabric and indie patterns!

This shop and staff are wonderful. The fabrics are the best quality with lots to choose from either woven or knit. They are able to walk you through their fine selection of machines to find your best options. Whether busy or not the sales staff are available to help with all of your sewing questions or concerns. And there are classes!

After buying a Singer at a second hand store last year and not being able figure it out myself, I turned to the experts. Initially my daughter attempted to sign us up online but it would not processed. She called and Bonnie answered the line with some bad news - the class had one spot available. We decided to allow her to take the class as I took Home Ec and usually hand stitch things I need including face masks. A few minutes later, Bonnie called back and advised us that she'd confirmed with the instructor that she could safely add one more person! What customer service!

I was visiting Charleston on vacation and of course had to look for a fabric store. I make clothing and it is so hard to find a fabric store that isn't just a quilting store. This store is an absolute gem! They have a beautiful selection of apparel fabrics. The staff were so friendly and helpful. I am very jealous I don't have a store like this in Connecticut!

I absolutely love Five Eighth Seams! I've taken several classes there and bought lots of fabric and notions. The staff are kind and helpful. The selection is top notch. The layout of the store is especially helpful for quilters--plenty of places to "audition" fabric combinations before making final selections.

The fabric here is beautiful and the selection is decent. Not as much quilting fabric as there is knits and clothing fabric. The employees have been average at best. My biggest complaint is that my sons really wanted to do sewing camp and the only one with openings was a kids class making skirts. I asked if they could have another project to work on in the class and she told me "no, the classes are already set. And anyways, boys aren't interested in our classes." Hmm, I wonder why. Not a very inclusive place. Sad.

I went here today with my wife. I was the pack mule and wielder of the debit card. I can't say I know much about this stuff, but my wife was in heaven. They have a good selection of unique fabrics and other sewing type stuff. They also sell machines, teach classes, and have a club for kids. It seemed like the staff really care about the customer and were genuinely interested in what my wife will make with the products that she purchased.

Today I tried to visit this business but it has moved from the Ashley River Road address listed in YELP. Check their website for an up to date address. It wasn't too far away but the traffic was so bad, I couldn't make it to their new location. Sounds like a nice shop though. Took us over an hour and a half to drive 8 miles to this shop from the James Island Campground and return at 1:00 in the afternoon. Charleston traffic is intense! Not the shops fault of course.

Found this awesome shop while looking for patterns sold locally on pinterest. Beautiful selection of unique fabric designs, and notions.Very pleasant atmosphere, unlike one of the chain fabric stores here im Charleston. Looking forward to taking classes and spending more time shopping (replenishing the hoard).

Took the basics sewing class here with a group of girlfriends. We made a zipper pouch an it took us about 2 hours. They showed us how to work each person's machine and put up with our chattiness! :). The most important part was the ability to drink a glass a wine while doing so! I recommend this place for super adorable fabric and classes! We are all now taking the 101 class!
