Piggly Wiggly, America's first true self-service grocery store, was founded in Memphis, Tenn. in 1916 by Clarence Saunders. In grocery stores of that time, shoppers presented their orders to clerks who gathered the goods from the store shelves.

Saunders, a flamboyant and innovative man, noticed that this method resulted in wasted time and expense, so he came up with an unheard-of solution that would revolutionize the entire grocery industry: he developed a way for shoppers to serve themselves.Operating under the unusual name Piggly Wiggly, it was unlike any other grocery store of that time.

Love shopping at Piggly wiggly just wish they had more premade BBQ ready to eat style to chose from. I'd pay the price just to have a good one to chose from.

I needed 2 quarts of motor oil. They didn't have it at the Dollar Tree next door. So on a chance I entered the Piggly Wiggly in I believe what was Selmer TN . A gentleman asked if he could help me with anything within 5 seconds of entering the store . That is what I call attentive service & people !! I told him what I needed and he guided me in person to where that item could be located. Great Job 👍!!
