Prior to starting in the building materials business, my father was a masonry and concrete contractor and I worked for him. He had a lease on Canoga Ave just south of Devonshire in the recession of 1982, times got very tough for the construction industry. Since we had the yard, I had asked if we could put some extra block and brick on the front lot to start selling them, and of course he said yes.
That was the start of Pacific Building Materials, about July of 1981. In 1984 we were going to lose the lease on the property because the owner wanted to put up a building. I knew the next door neighbor and he also had a vacant lot without an office. I bought a 40 foot trailer to be the office and moved next door over the weekend.

They did more than expected. Workers made a custom wired basket so cobble and pallet would fit into my the back of my SUV using forklift. Took the best rock down from higher stack, and helped me load rocks. Price was super cheap compared to paying someone. This is my second visit in past 2-3 years. Will go back again.

We are homeowner in Newbury Park and did our own stone purchase for a patio and stepping stones. We went to several yards and I was impressed by how clean and organized Simi Pacific yard is. The trucks are clean and I actually seen the drivers shine their wheels. We bought three thousand pounds of stone, (Utah Sunrise), bricks, sand, DG and garden supplies. Everything arrived exactly as we ordered and exactly on time. The driver was super nice and made a great effort to get the bricks as close as he could to make our life easy. Not as bad as the 1 star reviews, but still pretty bad experience with them. In a nutshell, it was just really hard to get a straight answer from them. They always had to get back to me (and that took 1 + days). I went inside the store to try to speed up the process and the guy was too busy texting to get to me right away. Quality of the rocks I got were ok, I guess. You can tell they've been on their lot for years and seemed to have been broken during moves. Next time I'll try to go with a bigger more reputable company.
