Urban Forest Hardwoods
To find locally sourced hardwoods that are both enviromentally friendly and afforable. And thust the journey began, i purchased woodmizer in 2008. I was hooked from the very first cut, it was something primal turning a tree into a log, and then that log into a board.

In soul of a tree goerge nakashima described the sawyer, one of the great craftsmen of our age with steady nerves and experienced judgment, cutting logs entails great responsibility for we are dealing with fallen majesty. We provide a local, sustainable source for high-quality hardwood with the lowest carbon footprint possible, period.
Services
Inspired by nature, forged by hand. Free flowing modern designs built to last forever. Our guiding principle "simplicity is perfection", "form and function should be one, joined in spiritual union"The designers i admire most are gustuv stickley, george nakashima, wharton esherick and frank loyd wright, thier combined works spanning over a century to me represent the highest ideals of design and craftsmenship.
Urban Forest Hardwoods is committed to responsible business practices and promotes wood as a renewable resource. We believe in the conservation of our forestry sources and our business is grounded in these principles. Our logs are locally sourced from trees that are dying or storm-damaged, or have been selectively harvested as a result of development.

Joe does amazing work. We designed an unusual and unique coffee table with him, and he delivered a piece of true artistry, even better than we had imagined. The more time we spend with it, the more we love it. He was a pleasure to deal with. It's unlikely you'll find this quality of craftsmanship anywhere else.

Love the way our kitchen island turned out. Joe was great to work with and helped us stay in budget on this project. His shop is filled with an amazing selection of slabs and beautiful pieces of wood. Can’t wait to do another project with him.

Joe was great to work with on my live edge desk project. He has lots of species to chose from - elm, cherry, maple, cedar, and white oak . We found a great piece of white oak and Joe did a terrific job finishing the slab. It wont be our last project with Joe!

I am building a stand up desk and wanted to use quarter sawn white oak. I found Joe online and and drove down to see him. He suggest Rt 5 out of Richmond as it is a scenic route- good suggestion!
He showed me a few pieces of wood, we talked about the shape on the edge and the finish. A couple of weeks later I had my top and a matching shelf. It was just what I was looking for and had a great, durable finish, perfect for a desk. If you need something made of wood, I am sure Joe is the right guy.
Now I am just waiting on my Iron shelf supports to be made.

Joe was awesome in helping us find the perfect piece for a live edge coffee table we're making. He has a wide array of wood species, sizes, thicknesses, etc. and was really knowledgeable. We ended up purchasing a lovely slab of elm that came from Church Hill. We plan to go back for some additional pieces and will recommend Urban Forest Hardwoods to everyone we know!
