Services
The joining of these two premier groups affords over 30 years of experience and medical expertise. Our mission at Carolina Orthopedics and Sports Medicine is to be a high-quality orthopedic care team committed to patients and their quality of life. Our vision is to empower people who live in our communities to regain and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
In addition to working side by side with our Physicians and clinical staff for brace fitting, casting and home rehab exercise programs, our Athletic Trainers currently provide exceptional sports medicine care to one community college and twelve local high schools across Eastern North Carolina. They work under the direction of our Sports Medicine-Orthopedic Physicians to ensure that our student athletes receive the best possible care.
Orthopedics, or orthopedic services, treat the musculoskeletal system. This includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. They impact people regardless of age, physical condition, health. Orthopedic injuries can be debilitating, causing pain, lack of mobility, and other physical issues.
Are you concerned that you may need physical therapy (PT)? Carolina Orthopedics can help evaluate whether PT is right for you. The goal of physical therapy is to help patients maintain, recover or improve physical ability that may be impaired due to a condition or injury. You may not know if physical or occupational therapy is best for your particular situation or even the difference between occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT).
If the lack of mobility is keeping you from completing daily tasks or working, occupational therapy (OT) can help. OT is specifically designed to help people live life to the fullest by helping them function better with injury, illness, or disability. What is the difference between occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT)?

Long long wait in the waiting room. Dr was rushed and had to answer a phone call.. walked out of the room after 10 minutes and never came back.. all in all he did an adequate job ordering tests but I left feeling a bit miffed and with questions unanswered. It is a very busy establishment and I felt like I fell through the cracks. Hopefully the next visit will be better.

I have had two surgeries performed by Dr. Wertman and I rate him and his staff as top notch. However, the wait times for routine appointments are always ridiculously long. My appointment today was at 10:05. I was called from my car about 10:10 and brought back to one of the rooms to see the doctor. I waited there until 11:45. It has usually been at least one hour other than the times I have seen the PA.
I also was dismayed that only about half the people in the waiting room were wearing face masks. Granted one could wait in their vehicle but it seems a doctor's office would have stricter rules

Had wrist surgery by Dr Hedge, everything pre op was great under her and her PA, Fauve Hill. Got ran around in circle by naval Medical and finally got my referral here. Way quicker and better than getting the run around for a year by base medical. ONLY downside is how long the wait is for Dr Hedge, but it was well worth it

PTs were great, but I had lots of trouble making appointments. Admin staff is a mind blowing blend of stupidity and ineptitude. I changed clinics.

I have Tricare Prime insurance and have had nothing but problems working with this office. At first did not want to accept my referral from Tricare and then wanted multiple referrals put in for bilateral knee pain and right shoulder pain. Wouldn't see me to addressed what was on the referrals and then wanted me to requeste for a additional referral from Tricare.

This used to be one of the best in the region but now is a "fee for see" enterprise which has lost contact with patient care. Long waits, constant referrals to the overbooked physical therapy group they own, and lack of consideration or return communication with patients is the new norm.

This is a horribly organized office. I've been here several times with my mom who is a patient here, not only was she treated disrespectful by all staff, administrative and clinical we have to wait no less than an hour and a half beyond scheduled appointment time. Who does that??? I do not recommend this practice to anyone. Go elsewhere

We were referred to this facility from the pediatrician because it was beyond their means of service. It took two hours before this facility would return a phone call from the pediatrician to accept my child to get a cast. We were a "write in" appointment, and had to catch an opening for the PA to put a cast on my child. While waiting, an announcement was made that the PA was about an HOUR behind on his appointments. Our wait time was over two hours, and my child did not get a cast that day due to swelling. We were already five hours of waiting to get a cast at this point, so the swelling naturally
