Our best selling class, the Taste of Blacksmithing is a one-day introduction to this ancient craft. Work at your own forging station and, with the help of our two master smiths, take home a tool made with your own two hands. Take the next step in your blacksmithing journey with this hands-on weekly class designed to build your blacksmithing knowledge.
For over 30 years, we have had the pleasure of designing, forging and installing many wrought iron art projects, both large and small. Morrell Metalsmith's highly skilled artisans can create elaborate, one-of-a-kind designs based upon your personal vision. We work together with each customer throughout the process, creating customized pieces especially for their homes, whether it be interior railings, fireplace tools or other custom iron work.
Having at least one full basic class under your belt*, competent and fairly proficient with all basic forging processes and the use/operation of the standard tools and equipment of the trade. The above plus 3 years of part-time to full time in the forge and a good working knowledge/experimentation of joinery, forge welding and clean proficient forging of tapers, shoulders, drawing stock down to dimensions, spreading stock, layout and design.
We love sharing our passion for blacksmithing through our classes. It's as fun for us as it is for our students, and we're grateful for all the new relationships we make each time. Hearing how we've impacted someone's life is one of the great joys we experience through teaching. Had a great time at the Taste of Blacksmithing class this past weekend.

Wow. I'm not sure I've found a hidden gem, because they seem pretty well known in the area. That being said, boy am I happy I found them.
I had been searching the interwebs trying to find an indoor firewood rack for our Southern Vermont cabin. I kept finding things on Amazon, Lowes, Home Depot and/or other websites, but I've grown tired of the cheap steel you get with those sites/stores. Sadly my generation really don't know what quality metal is because of these websites and stores. Craftmanship? Not so much. Enter a local business that churns out quality metal work.

We asked Morrell Metalsmiths to craft a new arrow for a sundial we had purchased from Ireland, after the arrow was lost in transit. They only had pictures to work from, but absolutely nailed it and fabricated a beautiful piece that matches the old sundial perfectly. Evan was great about answering my questions and getting back to me quickly, and so easy to work with. So happy I found them and that they had the expertise to help with this unusual job. Thank you!

Took the "Taste of Blacksmithing" class with my wife. We enjoyed every minute. The instructions were clear. Environment was safe. Instructors were helpful and willing to let students make mistakes. Never jumped in and corrected too quickly. The instructors made sure that individuals understood the concepts before moving onto the next step. Very friendly and experts at their craft. Don't hesitate to take the class. You will not regret it one bit.

After welding and messing around with metal for awhile, my wife purchased a blacksmith class at Morrell Metalsmiths for my birthday. Evan and Justin were incredibly awesome teachers and answered all of my blacksmith questions, which was a lot of questions. After the class was finished they helped me get set up with an anvil and forge for my home shop. I’d recommend the basic class to anyone interested in blacksmithing, metalwork or to anyone who just wants to see and feel the heat of molten metal and wants to transform it into art with their own hands.

I was asked to help book a Blacksmithing class for a bachelor party. They went above and beyond in everything (scheduling, helping plan a lunch for the guys, and any questions we had). All 10 of the guys that went were very impressed and had a great time! We couldnt have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend anyone to take a class, purchase items they made, or hire them for a project!!

Justin and Evan were wonderful to work with. We were in need of outdoor railings for our home and garden area but wanted something that architecturally went well with our home. Not a pre-fab off the shelf job. We went to visit the shop in Colrain, then after a few design reviews via e-mail we were ready to forge. The railings came out great! Morrell Metalsmiths even did the installation. We could not be happier. Highly recommend them for custom metal work.
