1968 The Hinkson Children's Center (1505 Hinkson) was opened. This expanded property opened in response to a surge in women returning to the workplace in the 1960's. The center provided a void in the community for families at a time when quality care was minimal. 1987 In response to the community's need for infant and toddler care, we purchased the neighboring property at 1511 Hinkson Avenue.

My son has been at MLJ for almost a month now and this is the best daycare I have been to so far! I have a three year old who is on the wait list but my 9 month old never cries when I leave him they are very inviting and when I pick him up he is always playing and smiling! Definitely recommend to everyone!!

I placed my oldest boy here when he was 1. Have to say that it was the best move for him. When entering kindergarten he was reading, writing at almost a 2nd grade level. I owe alot of that to the staff. He seek the child's needs as well as the parents. Currently, I have 2 more enrolled and they are so amp to attend school, even on the weekends. This means alot as a parent. To be able to know that I can drop my child off and their in good hands. They are being loved, learning but most of all having fun.

My baby loves coming here. It's very apparent the teachers and everyone involved works very hard to make sure these kids are getting prepared for school and all of their developmental needs are met. Even at home my child is more interested in learning how to read and write. He even has better manners, asking if he may be excused from the table instead of complaining he wants to be done. He was very nervous to start, but everyone was so inviting he soon felt more and more comfortable. I know my child is safe, engaged, and truly cared about by not only his teachers, but the directors, the cook, substitutes

My daughter attends Mary Lee Johnston and is currently in the toddler room. The center is fabulous! The teachers truly care about the children and she learns so much every day! Just turning 2 and she can count to 10 and is learning letters and knows shapes and colors. The center provides great programs and very healthy food for the children. They have events throughout the year for fun as well as educational events for parents. As a non-profit the tuition is very affordable. I highly recommend this center.

Honest Opinion I would never in a million years send my child/children to a place like this, although I am not a parent I am a older sibling.
4 years ago possibly more, my family had some issues with this day care. It seems to be that the supervisor/owner was unequiped for her position. She had laid hands on my little brother.. (who knows what other children.) awhile back we tried to make a police report but my brother was shy and embarrassed to even talk to CPD. There was not enough evidence for CPD to do anything. I am writing this because no child should ever have to go through something like

My son attends MLJCLC and I absolutely love the care he receives. He has been there since he was 2, he had previously stayed with his grandmother so this was his first daycare experience. They were very patient with him and helped him to learn the routine. Now he is in the early learners class and comes home often with something new he's learned. I would recommend this daycare to everyone. By the way my 2 nephews also attend this daycare, and are well taken care of.
