For over a decade Academic Outfitters has provided uniforms and accessories to Dallas schools. Today this locally and woman owned business is operated by an owner who is an experienced educator, specialty retailer, and clothing and textile expert. She is assisted by a staff trained in customer service, clothing construction and sizing, and the uniform requirements for each of our schools.
Every school is different. Each has its own mission, values, and strategy - characteristics that are reflected to the public through the school's brand. Customer service is essentially nonexistent here. They claim it takes 4 days to pull an order off their website before they even begin to process it. Then they want an additional 2-3 weeks to do their in house embroidery on files they already have in the system. It’s not like they have to even do any art work to create the file! They have a monopoly on the uniform business, and they act like it. Their attitude is “we’ll get to it when we get to in our own good time!” I only gave them a 2 instead of a 1 because they have a ton of product in the store. Otherwise, I’d rate them a 1!

I usually have a good experience at this store, however was recently given wrong store policy on embroidery by actually the owner and it was not honored. I know running a business is not easy and I always try and support small business however I feel they are more concerned with their income verses their customers. Their prices are on the high side especially having a monopoly in the area with no other uniform stores in the area except online. The owners smile and appear accommodating but when issues arise they are the least bit accommodating. They will definitely not receive my business again

I really wish someone would open another uniform store in the North Dallas area. This one is poorly run. I called to check on an order I purchased (in store) over 3 weeks ago to have embroidered and no one can even answer the phone. The voice mailbox is full...The owners of this store know they have a corner on the market and really care less about customer service. My family has been forced to purchase through them for the last five years. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the man behind the counter when we purchased was actually kind and funny.

I am completely disappointed. I placed my order early Friday morning. Website did NOT state 2 to 3 weeks to process orders. I received the email confirmation and my card was charged. By Tuesday, I checked and no update on my order. I called to check and I was advised they are 2 to 3 weeks behind on online orders. I asked if they could refund the shipping fee and I would pick up the order (30 minute drive for me), I was told they could not do this. I asked to have my order canceled. She (manager) took the information and said it would be canceled. I expressed my disappointment in no notification

Back to school week with 90+ degrees weather - I came to return some clothes because we had to pull kids out of school due to COVID. Apparently if you're there for pick up something you preordered or you want to add logos that require you to go straight to the check-out line, you're welcome to skip the line. If you need to return anything, according to the elderly man guarding the door, whom I assume may be the owner, you need to stand in line in the heat for more than an hour even though I walked straight to the check-out line and didn't linger to shop for anything.

Normally on a slow day the customer service is great. Today Saturday August 21 2021, well over 20+ customers had been waiting outside for over 30 minutes and once 3pm arrived they locked the doors and some older man yelled at everyone (my 12 year old included) to leave and spelled out CLOSED. Too bad this is our only option for school apparel.

Whew. I can tell alot of people leaving bad reviews have likely never worked retail.
There will be things out of stock, especially if you wait until the last minute to buy uniforms from a store that serves so many schools. I went in to purchase my kids winter gear ahead of time in August. While I was in I was talking to an associate about ordering the sizes I needed because they were out due to CUSTOMS related issues and other shipping delays that they have no control over. She was audibly upset that the shipments hadn't come in. Becaude of this they were severely behind. I ordered my jackets

I can echo what other customers have said about the owner. The rest of the staff are responsive but he has zero customer service skills. He will not go out of his way to help anyone and doesn't seem to care. He has been rude to me and I have witnessed him berate others for very petty reasons. I will be contacting the school that my kids attend to urge them to consider other options for their students.

It’s a shame that schools give us few options to purchase uniforms. It sucks to stand in line in 100 degrees weather. There’s no one guiding parents. There is an old man at the door treating customers like we are there to get free stuff. This is the result of poor planning. Two weeks before the store was crowded, everyone maskless. As a result, their staff got sick. This guy needs to learn some manners or retire and let someone else manage the store.

This place is not my cup of tea. Had to stand in line the heat for an hour waiting to pick up my kids school uniforms. The man manager or possibly owner was very curt, persnickety & condescending. He could improve his manners towards women especially. Overall the rest of the staff was very kind and helpful. Also why isn’t there a Dallas Location of this store.

They are the most unprofessional store I've ever been to. The guy Panko who claims to be the owner has the "shakes" and he's the worst. On top of this their prices are ridiculous and product is cheaply made. They requested all these school contracts and was not able to meet the demands. Look how they have people lined up outside like cattle. It's a 100+ degrees out and they only have 12 people in the store.

The previous reviews were old, just ignore them. I honestly do not buy from this store for my son's school uniforms unless his school has specific requirements to follow. This time of Covid19 pandemic, I had to return unworn, with tags of within 30-60 days time frame, no problem. They are very friendly, and helpful of what I needed the day!

They will sell you a return policy and will not follow through with the returns.

Owner will defend employees with no remorse or objection, even if the employee admits to the wrongdoing after they step away and have a not so quiet discussion about it.

Very low quality on uniform sweaters and even after showing them, they will not reach to their suppliers to change things. Very expensive and not a lot of deals when buying uniforms, I guess is part of having a kid in a private school.

Poor customer service. The owner was rude when I tried to return a shirt. I see I'm not the only one to experience this. Too bad we have to get our uniforms here. I will be extremely selective in the future. If you can get your uniforms elsewhere I would suggest it.

Went to buy a skirt and cardigan for my daughter. Met the owner and she was very rude to me. There were 7 people in line for 1 register. When I asked if another could be opened (I saw at least 4 employees not busy) I was told no. One of them was the owner. When my turn came, she made a point of telling she was the owner and she had 15 college student employees..... at that point I told her she didn't want my business and I left without making a purchase. I will go get my daughters clothes at Mills. It is a further drive, but I will not support a store that is rude to its customers.

I am very happy with the items I purchased. The sales person who helped us may have been new, or she didn't really like her job? She didn't seem too knowledgeable about the stock. She kept "forgetting" what I had asked for. I had to repeat myself several times as she lead us aimlessly through the store. It's ok though. I knew what items I needed for my daughter and eventually the sale person lead us to what we needed. We were in and out quickly even with trying items on. I would definitely shop here again. The quality of the plaid jumpers and skirts is very nice.

We purchased uniforms over 60 days ago which would fit but for another few weeks due to growth spurts. The uniforms still had the tags, so we decided to ask if the store would exchange them for a larger size. They refused citing the reason as material and supplier change. New larger uniforms were purchased and on comparison were surprisingly the same barcode, materials and supplier.

We have shopped here for multiple grades due to the store been the only provider of uniforms. Honestly if there was another choice to obtain the uniforms for my children's school I would shop elsewhere.

We had a very good experience here. My son has never worn a uniform of any kind, and has never even tucked his shirt in or owned a belt! So we were both a little uneasy about finding clothes that looked good. The sales lady that helped us, I think her name was Shannon, was extremely helpful and made the experience super easy- didn't take long at all. So far the clothes have held up nicely, I like the stiffness of the shorts- makes them always look nice and never wrinkled. I feel that the materials are high quality and will hold up nicely. My daughter and I had a very pleasant experience here. We were out looking for items for a last minute Hogwarts uniform, specifically, a white polo, a tie, and mostly a gray pleated skirt. After looking for these items at many other stores, we drove out here 15 minutes before closing on a Friday. Academic Outfitters had all of these items. They had a huge selection of school uniforms. Will not be coming back here unless forced to. Bought three pairs of pants. Tried one on and the clerk handed us two more of same size. We checked the tags to make sure as we had problems in the past with different cuts fitting very differently. Had to get them embroidered. After picking them up, my son tried on one pair before we removed the tags. Our mistake ... Washed the pants. When son put on a pair for the first day of school, the pants were a size or two too small. Immediately checked the tag and saw the tag size was right, just somehow mislabeled. But alas, No Refund if tags removed..

I initially had a negative experience, but the owner kindly reached out to me and addressed my concerns. I appreciate the time she took to contact me. I have not returned to make a purchase, so I'm reserving the highest mark should I decide to return and have a better experience.
