Most homes are built with fiberglass insulation because it has been used for years and it's the cheapest type of insulation to use. While fiberglass insulation is cheaper in the short run, spray foam insulation has become a more reliable alternative and one that produces substantial results for all homes.
Spray foam is the result of a chemical reaction. Two liquids combine to make foam, which then expands within the walls, crawlspaces and crevasses of a home or commercial building. In particular, one chemical is methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and the other is a blend of polyols, catalysts, blowing agent, flame retardant and surfactant.
Spray foam insulation is rapidly becoming the insulation of choice for contractors and builders. Spray foam insulation provides more benefits than traditional fiberglass insulation and protects structures for longer, saving money in the long run. This type of low-density foam is made from bio-based materials combined with water or carbon dioxide as a blowing agent.
Spray foam insulation has grown in popularity over the decades and is becoming the popular choice when insulating a home or commercial building. Most do not know the terminology regarding spray foam insulation, other than it insulates using a foam mixture and not fiberglass. Open Cell: less thick foam created by mixing Isocyanate with open cell resin.
