In 1911, an ambitious engineer named George Neumark established Illinois Cleaners as a full-service cleaner, launderer and furrier. Illinois Cleaners was a robust cleaning operation serving the suburbs of Chicago until the 1960s. In the 1960s, the dry cleaning industry entered the "polyester years."
