For 30 years, St. Croix Ballet has offered classical ballet training for families and students in the St. Croix Valley and eastern Twin Cities metro area. Our instruction is founded on the principles of the Russian Vagonova Method. In addition, dancers have the opportunity to receive training in a wide variety of dance styles throughout the year, including character and modern dance.

Our students have been accepted into programs at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Alvin Alley American Dance Theater, Joffrey Ballet, Ballet Austin, Milwaukee Ballet, Bossov Ballet, Harid Conservatory, Butler University, University of Iowa, Gelsey Kirkland Academy and numerous others. Many of our students enroll in dance programs in college or go on to dance professionally.

Karla Sweeney founded St. Croix Ballet in 1991 in the basement of the Sweeney's Stillwater home. She built the program into one of the Twin Cities top ballet studios. After a gallant 15-year battle with late-stage breast cancer, Mz. Karla graduated from the University of Utah with a BFA in Ballet. She danced with Ballet West and several regional companies in the Southwest, performing in the Nutcracker, Les Sylphides, Coppelia, and others.

St. Croix Ballet has been a big part of our family since my daughter first joined in 2007. It’s a positive and encouraging environment for a child to grow up in. Steeped in rich tradition and a welcoming community, St. Croix Ballet is an ideal place for any child learning the fine art of Classical Russian Ballet.
