Long ago as a child growing up in southern California, psychedelic was my favorite color. My mom got a tiedye kit when I was about 5. And we dabbled around a bit. But it wasn't until when I was older and when I attended some Grateful Dead concerts I really got interested in the beautiful tiedyes there.
A friend of mine Mike started to dye and showed me some basics. Being a artist, it came naturally. Then I had moved to Texas and started my tiedye journey down there in Corpus Christi. A local beach called J.P.Lubey beach park I started selling nationally and then internationally. Then I sold my shirts on the shores of California, Texas, and Hawaii.

All things great happen when you travel off the beaten path - and in our case, the Mamalahoa Highway on the Big Island, back in July of 2020 after inter-island travel was lifted, then re-instated as the COVID numbers went back up. This is SUCH a cool spot! All the tie dye your heart could possibly desire (tapestries, sweatshirts, headbands, sarongs, pants, dresses, crop tops, stickers, honestly anything you could think of!) and at great prices too. There were designs I’ve never even seen before; truly works of art! The owner is incredibly talented and such a nice guy. Be sure to check out the “trip room” upstairs! We can’t wait to come back on our next trip.

Tie Dye Hobo is a must see stop as you drive south from Kailua-Kona towards Captain Cook. John is a great guy with a wonderful life story. He is very creative and even if you don't think you like tie dye, you will want to wear his clothing! We discovered him two years ago in January of 2017. My wife went back three times, bought about seven dresses and custom ordered four more. We went to his new location again this January 2019 and my wife bought four more dresses and a beautiful T Shirt for me!

Our 2nd visit to tye dye hobo resulted in a pile of really cool clothing items to bring home with us. The hobo is ultra cool and friendly. We love what he is able to do with tye dye and his creativity. Respect what he has done for himself. I wish I had a talent I could move to the islands with and make a living from it. Mahalo Hobo !

I had the pleasure of visiting John's store today 12/29/2018. The store was very tidy and clean. The merchandise was very neatly displayed and fairly priced. Wonderful selection and very reasonable prices! John has presented his work in an appealing arrangement which makes it easy to see everything and find the appropriate sizes. He has a large discount area with many great finds! He has mirrors positioned well to get various reflections for choosing the right look and adequate changing areas.
