Locally owned and operated in Guilford, CT since 1984, East River Energy provides heating oil and propane to thousands of customers throughout the State. Further, we are the largest fuel supplier to CT municipalities & school systems and a major distributor of petroleum products across 13 states and growing.
Our journey began in September of 1984 when Ed Walker founded East River Oil in a little office on State Street in Guilford, CT. The following year, current President and CEO Don Herzog joined East River Oil, bringing a wealth of sales experience with commercial, governmental, and municipal entities to guide the company to the next level.
As a locally owned and operated company, East River Energy remains committed to giving back to the local community. We continuously strive to make a positive impact in the areas where our customers and employees live and work, and we look forward to being a good neighbor for many years to come.

East River Energy is proud to support numerous organizations and their missions through both volunteer efforts and donations, including active participation in The Governor's Prevention Partnership Student Mentoring programs.
Locally owned and operated in Guilford, CT since 1984, East River Energy prides itself on reliability, consistency, and premium service for each and every one of our customers. Economical - According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration for the past 16 years, heating oil has been a better value than gas heat in Connecticut.
East River Energy is uniquely positioned to offer propane to residential customers across the state of CT. Did you know that almost 90% of the propane used in the United States is produced domestically? Propane is a natural gas which means it is not "made" of other raw materials, but instead "found" in petroleum chemical mixtures deep within the Earth.

Absolute worst service I've ever received. I have had to purchase propane to heat my house for the last 3 years because I am a renter and do not own my propane tanks. At first service was fine, deliveries were relatively prompt, and didn't have an issue getting a quick fill when I accidentally ran out of propane mid winter. But since then they have been incredibly unprofessional, Eric in the office has texted me from his personal cellphone about my bill, one time even saying "are you just not going to pay your bill?" Phyllis in their office was not the slightest bit understand

My mom lives in West Haven. After 40 years her furnace needed replacing. She told me that she was getting estimates from her oil company and other contractors and the estimates were ranging from $15,000 to $30,000. I thought that sounded ridiculous and I was worried that people were preying on her. I remembered that my old West Haven High School classmate and football teammate, Don Herzog is in that business so I contacted him. They sent George McQueeney out to look at her furnace and they are going to take care of it for well under $10,000. If you are looking for good honest service, call

I wasn't even an existing customer as I had just moved into a new house and knew nothing about oil.... I ran out of oil and my furnace cut out, these guys came right out for an emergency call and got some oil in my tank for me and got me back up n running while explaining everything to me. Great Service, Great Tech!!!!
