Our Physicians at our Portsmouth NH clinic specialize in the treatment of chronic, intractable pain including Headaches, Fibromyalgia, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Pudendal Neuralgia as well as pain from Cancer, Nerve Damage, Herniated Discs, and Arthritic Joints (Shoulders, Elbows, Wrists, Hands, Sacroiliac, Hips, Knees, Ankles, Feet).

At American Pain Institute in Portsmouth, NH, our Board Certified Physicians offer over 50 different interventions for chronic pain of all types. We are an exclusively Physician practice. All patient encounters are performed by Board Certified Physicians with Specialty Board Certification in Pain Management.
Please bring your insurance card for us to copy. If you have had X-Rays, MRI's, or any other type of imaging for your pain, please remember to send them to our office in advance before your consultation. Notes from other Physicians who have diagnosed or treated you for your pain should also be sent to our office in advance prior to your consultation.
Having a doctor's prescription does not always guarantee you will receive the prescribed medication. Insurance policies today may deny valid prescriptions for a variety of reasons. Take your prescription to your preferred pharmacy within New Hampshire (as per your treatment agreement).
If your preferred pharmacy does not have the COMPLETE script (number of pills indicated), we recommend that you find another pharmacy who can fill the entire prescription.If this is not possible, the prescription will need to be adjusted and you will need to come to the office to pick up a new prescription and hand in your old one.

I have been going to Dr Greenspan who is upfront about getting relief from the excruciating pain I was suffering from. The first three Epidurals did very little for me but the first one of the second round did the trick and I have been completely pain free for 6 weeks. I have to mention the ladies at the front desk are wonderful and caring. Dr. Greenspan is very gentle and I feel like I have my life back being able to do the everyday things. Thanks Doc

I was referred to The American Pain Institute by my Primary Care Physician in early 2020. I have been taking opiate pain medication for re-occurring chronic pain for over 30 years, due mainly to global, severe, advanced, degenerative osteoarthritis. I found Dr. Lehn and his support staff to be very professional and effective while helping me to manage my pain and look ahead to the future. I am a pretty non tech savvy individual and I apologize beforehand. When do you call family family when the aren’t your biological mother,father, grandparents, sister, brother, aunt, uncle?? The list can go on. Not going into my history, however I am a vet that the VA through Community Care allows me to see Dr Greenspan and his staff at a moment’s notice. I have had trauma that has left me disabled physically and emotionally. I am a very grateful woman. When I first started going to Dr. Greenspan I couldn’t even function in my daily life. I was in constant back pain all day, every day. Thankfully after my treatment plan, I have been able to enjoy my summer with my family. A couple months ago I did not think that this would be possible. I have seen doctors for years hoping for help with arthritis, trigger point pain in shoulder area , and neck and lumbar spine extending to thighs..Dr. Greenspan is the first doctor that has totally helped me! I am so happy. I have felt better with each steroid injection. I have complete trust in his care. The staff is just wonderful too. They are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable every time I visit. I highly recommend American Pain Institute in treatment for chronic pain. For years, I went to multiple physicians, various specialists and had countless imaging in search of a diagnosis for my extreme sternum pain. The last doctor that I saw recommended that I meet with a pain management doctor. I am so glad she did!
Dr. Lehn was the first doctor to truly listen and show empathy. Dr. Lehn recommended a treatment plan (drug free) and approach that works well for me and I am grateful to be under his care.

Exceptionally rude. I am stunned. After running me through hoops to get 3 referrals, I had to cancel the first appointment (with almost a week's notice.) I started another treatment since the next appointment was weeks and weeks out. That treatment is working, I think, and I'd like to wait to begin with this new doctor. So this morning, I called, with four days notice, to cancel the first appointment again. The woman asked me if I'd like to reschedule and I said, "No, best if I wait until I am ready to come, I'd hate to have to cancel a third time if I am not ready."

I think Dr. Greespan is an excellent doctor. I have had quite a few pain doctors over the years, and he may be my favorite. He is always prompt, which I love, and has a very gentle, caring nature. He is very intelligent and knows about a lot of pain reduction techniques, procedures and medications. The office is also really nice. Oh and he does excellent spine injections with minimal bruising and pain. I highly recommend.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I am so disappointed in the so called care I received from Dr. Lehn. I went here looking for help with my pain, I have a bulging disc in my upper back that I have been dealing with for years due to an assault I suffered years ago. It also doesn't help that my job requires me standing 9 + hours a day. So needless to say some days are better than others but I suffer with pain quite often. I have suffered with Trigeminal Nerve Pain brought on by MS for over 25 years of my life . The pain is debilitating. My journey for pain relief included many neurologist, gamma knife therapy and many different pain medications without success.

I'm a new patient here and I will admit I was a little nervous going to a new place as I had been going to another pain management center for over the past 7 years with little to no pain relief, I loved my doctor there nothing negative for me to say about her but I needed long term pain relief or preferably no pain 🙏🏻and deep down I knew I needed a change. I have to say that this place is seriously one of the best pain/ office's I've ever been to or seen. They are welcoming ,kind and the office is the cleanest amazing art work to. This is mostly about and for (Dr.Lehn) ,after everything I went through at my previous pain management office, he was kind he really listened to me he didn't just nod and type away on his computer. He was very easy to talk to, (non judgmental), not like any other doctor I've ever seen. I would recommend this place to everyone you will not be disappointed. I'm so happy I found this place.

Dr. Greenspan runs a first class facility. The staff is friendly and courteous from the time one walks in. The office is beautiful. Most importantly if I have a patient that is in severe pain and wants an option to mitigate the spinal pain while we are correcting the problem with Chiropractic adjustments and rehab I know I have a Doctor that I can refer to that truly cares and gets excellent results. Patients have reported the procedures to be more gentle than they had expected which is good.

I am writing this review for Dr. Greenspan and staff at API...I had been a previous patient of Dr. G and I have to say that he was a breath of fresh air...I never felt like I was proving anything to Dr G and I didn't feel guilt about my pain that I was having...I was in Aerospace Engineering for years and quite successful...I had an ATV accident in 06' long story short...I crushed my back and have rods and plates holding my spine together along with severe recurring nerve pain throughout my lower back and left leg...Dr Greenspan was understanding and went out of his way from the other
