Joseph Shehadi, the founder of Shehadi Rugs, was born in 1880 in Beirut, Lebanon and came to America in 1900. Joseph's son, George, took over the Syracuse store from him in 1930 upon graduation from Syracuse University. In the early 60's the store was moved from S. Warren St. to its current location on Erie Blvd. in order to be more accessible for customers.
In 1977 at the ripe age of 25, Steve, the son of George Shehadi, assumed ownership of Shehadi, Inc. and continued on the Shehadi legacy to the third generation.

Shehadi Inc. is your local area rug retail store in Syracuse, NY and the surrounding area. We have specialized in handmade oriental rugs since 1900, but have made a move to also offering customers more modern, contemporary and arts & craft style machine made rugs. Our inventory includes handmade hand knotted rugs, wool tufted rugs and machine made rugs.
Here at Shehadi's we have a 10,000 square foot showroom with over 2,500 hanging rugs to choose from. Our inventory includes handmade hand knotted rugs, hand tufted rugs as well as machine made synthetic rugs. We carry every style you're looking for whether it be traditional, contemporary, arts & craft style or modern rugs.
We had a customer in need of a custom shaped rug to wrap around their built in bench as well as a radiator vent in the ground. We used a template to custom fit the rug as well as cut out the area for the vent to fit snugly over the rug. In the example below we used three rectangular area rugs, which we cut and seamed together, to create a custom shaped area rug complete with boarders to replicate the exact shape of a customers kitchen.

We are equipped with a 4,000 square foot state-of-the-art cleaning plant, complete with a dusting room, scrubbing and extraction room as well as an envionmentaly friendly drying facility.
