We are a board certified specialty equine clinic focused on sports medicine, lameness, tendon and ligament injuries, back pain and rehabilitation. Equine sports medicine is a specific field of veterinary medicine that focuses on the health and well-being of horses, used as athletes in any discipline of equestrian sports.
Unlike the diagnosis and treatment of common lameness and injuries, sports medicine is more targeted on specific musculoskeletal injuries, related to using horses in all different kind of disciplines of equestrian sports. To recognize and diagnose these occupational injuries, more specialized expertise is needed.

Services
The farm has a nice quiet atmosphere and is located in a nice rural setting with pastures, woods and professional equestrian facilities. We have a 75 x 150 feet indoor arena, an outdoor arena of the standard FEI size 20x 60 meter (67x 200 feet) and an outdoor lunging area of 60 x 60 feet that facilitate us to do our exams in any weather condition.
Both Doctors at our center are board certified specialists. This means both veterinarians went through a year internship and a 3 year residency in the specialty where they are certified in before being allowed to take (and pass!) the board exam.
Dr van Wessum is double boarded, he is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (Equine) and a Dutch Veterinary Medical Association (KNMvD) Certified Practicioner in Equine Medicine.Dr Johnston is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (Equine).

A thorough exam is essential for an accurate diagnosis. Lameness exams at the Equine All-Sports Medicine Center are scheduled so that the clinican can spend at least 2 hours with each client. The whole horse is considered during the in-depth analysis of the problem. The horse can be observed on hard and soft surfaces, on circles and straight lines, in hand and under saddle.
In essence, any back pain evaluation is comparable to a full lameness exam. We will take 1-2 hours to fully asses your horse in stance, motion and sometimes under saddle. We will evaluate your tack and saddle fit to evaluate the possibility of interference of the tack with muscles and skeletal parts of the back.
This exam can be performed on our center or on location in your barn when an appointment can be made for multiple horses at the same day. During the check-up your horse will be evaluated for fitness and soundness through an intensive physical exam, focusing on performance, lameness and general health.

Dr Rob is a terrific vet. Decades of experience with all sport disciplines and breeds of horses. I like that He's reluctant to order expensive tests unless they're really necessary. But if he orders a test, you can bet you need it to get to the bottom of the problem. His insights have saved us money and our many horses pain over the 20 years we've known him. I'm always impressed that just by looking and feeling how a horse moves and reacts he can determine the most likely root cause. And so far he hasn't been wrong. I can't think of a better vet than Dr Rob.
