Alaska Hand Rehabilitation
Alaska Hand Rehabilitation is an employee-owned outpatient clinic established in Anchorage, AK in 1985. We are Alaska's leader in rehabilitation of the upper extremity. Our clinic is staffed exclusively by occupational therapists who have chosen to specialize in Hand Therapy. AHR focuses on evaluation and treatment of pain and conditions involving the shoulder, arm and hand.

Our mission is to provide creative, caring treatment and education for our patients and for the community. We are dedicated to helping individuals avoid or overcome an injury and to experience wholeness thereafter. We demonstrate our commitment to excellence through our enthusiastic approach to the education of our patients while constantly expanding our own knowledge and skills.
Services
The AHR staff consists of licensed Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists who, through advanced continuing education, clinical experience, and independent study, have become proficient in the treatment of pathologies affecting the upper extremity resulting from trauma, disease, and deformity.
As new patients, seeing a new specialist for the first time can be intimidating. With this in mind, we've gone above and beyond to streamline the referral and screening process so that you can plan your visit efficiently and without any added stress. If you're experiencing a hand, arm, or shoulder issue, but aren't sure if it necessitates medical treatment, our free screening is perfect for you.
Although we may already have your prescription for therapy, please bring a copy if you have one available. We will make a copy of your insurance card and ID. Our patient coordinators may have verified your insurance benefits prior to your appointment; however, insurance authorization will be confirmed during your visit.
Hand Therapy is the art and science of rehabilitation of the shoulder, arm, and hand. It merges comprehensive knowledge of the upper extremity with the skills and therapeutic techniques of the professions of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. This specialty was developed in response to advancements in technology and surgical techniques that have enabled the greater functional restoration of injured upper limbs.
Myofascial release therapy techniques are performed to loosen and break up scar tissue in order to restore normal function to tissue. Scar tissue limits range of motion and can perpetuate pain and dysfunctional movement. Myofascial therapy is performed in a slow and precise manner that can stimulate the nervous system.

I went in with a shoulder that was extremely difficult to move and I had a pain level of 8-10. Within 6 weeks I was at zero pain with my complete range of motion back!! Shout out to both Daniel and Sheila for all of the work they did. Amazingly friendly office staff as well. Will return if I ever have another injury for sure!!

My therapist, Sheila, is great! I also had an appointment today with Allison which was equally great! I have seen vast improvement since my shoulder surgery almost 11 weeks ago. The mobility, range, and strength I have gained is incredible. I have a ways to go and with this PT group, I know I will get there. They are encouraging and motivate you to do your 'homework' as I call it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This is the best group for hand rehabilitation. They have awesome providers who will talk you through every step (I saw three providers due to scheduling and everyone was kind, knowledgeable, and super communicative). Their auth and scheduling team is one of the best I have ever interacted with in terms of communication and willingness to assist.
The whole team truly set my standard for how I could be treated as a patient in terms of the respect and communication the providers and staff offered. I am really happy to both be pain free and to have had the experience of working with providers are

Jean is a very caring therapist. She was also able to build two splints for me in less than 15 minutes. I have a lot of work to do in a day, and I work nights for the summer as a Engineer for the AKDOT. This group was able to work with my busy schedule so I could get back to 100%. I had a lot of questions and I’m sometimes hard to work with, Jean took it all in stride and gave me the help I needed to get back the use of my thumb after I had severed the tendon.

Many times I left AK Rehab with tears of gratitude. Jean was absolutely amazing. I was sent to her with a possible diagnosis, and question from my dr. She not only helped diagnose my pain, but helped uncover a series of issues I have been misdiagnosed with for over a decade. When Jean wasn’t available, I saw Sheila. An equally amazing therapist. Both their knowledge created a perfect environment for me to improve. Every appointment we worked towards a goal- pain free. 19 months of rehab (through COVID!) and three surgeries later, I have so much gratitude in my heart for this office that this

Dr. Gray offered to see me even though I was uninsured and had a broken wrist. He took X-Rays and set the wrist and put it in a cast all without charging me. He then communicated with a doctor who would do surgery for me the next day. He went way beyond his role as a professional. He was so very kind to someone in need. I am ver grateful to him and his office.

This is the second opportunity I have been given to work with Dr. Tom Robinson of Alaska Hand Rehabilitation. Tom is highly skilled and has a myriad of techniques to help me regain the vigor I once had in my shoulders. Tom helps me understand the why behind the exercises and is able to encourage and teach the proper form for optimal restorative health. Besides being at the apex technically, Tom has great empathy for his patients' conditions and challenges.

Highly recommend this place just for him.

I first visited Alaska Hand Rehab several months ago after a referral form my primary care doctor for treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. I had nothing but excellent experiences when I was there. The staff are kind and courteous. Both the waiting area and the treatment rooms are clean and comfortable.

The hand therapist I saw, Alicia, was very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. She gave me many tools and exercises I still use to this day to help treat and prevent pain in my wrists, arms, and shoulders. The office has a variety of useful equipment such as foam rollers, dumbbells, and stability
