The Crystal Lake Yacht Club is a private, family-oriented sailing club located on the west shore of Crystal Lake, about 30 miles west of Traverse City. We are open from early-June until mid-August. Congratulations to Rob Terry and his crew for taking sixth place in the 2021 E-Scow Blue Chip Regatta!
They tied for fifth place, but lost the tie-breaker. CR66 made our CLYC fleet proud! From time to time we change the picture below to show stuff of interest or amusement for our members. Please email any interesting content to webmaster(at)clyc.net.

A detailed history of the land and clubhouse development can be read at Land History of the CLYC. For 62 years, from 1931 through 1992, C-Scows were the mainstay of sailing and racing at the CLYC. In 1947 Wood-Pussies were introduced for the Junior Fleet, and Wood-Pussies were sailed until 1969, when they were replaced by Butterflies.
As stated in our By-Laws adopted in 1947: "(Our) object shall be to encourage an interest in all forms of yachting, to sponsor racing contests in the various classes of craft on Crystal Lake, Michigan; to encourage good fellowship and sportsmanship among (our) members; and to assist in the development and enforcement of pilot rules and such other rules as may increase the safety and welfare of (our) members at Crystal Lake, Michigan."
The Crystal Lake Yacht Club is a summer sailing club of about 300 member families, located on the west shore of Crystal Lake in Benzie County, Michigan. Our primary goals are to sponsor competitive sailing among members of all ages, and to encourage safe and fun boating on Crystal Lake. Our Junior Fleet is the nucleus of our club's activities, and it provides education, competition, and camaraderie for youngsters through the age of 16.
2. Children of members: As a family centered club, all of our members look forward to the days when their children will actively participate in the activities of our Club. Many of them will eventually assume leadership roles. Grandparents should encourage their children to join in order for grandchildren to fully enjoy sailing.
Our Club's "CLYC BURGEE COLLECTION" has been a way for our members and their friends in other yacht clubs to exchange and proudly display at the CLYC a collection of burgees from afar. Our Club would like to build on this sailing tradition. To join in, you should contact Toby Tull through his email: crystallk1107(at)gmail.com.
