Kalamazoo Home Repair LLC is the latest incarnation of the business that I have owned and run since 1997. Many of you know me as Snapp Construction. Under that name, I did everything from roofing to remodeling to general contracting. While much of this work was enjoyable and rewarding, I often found myself a bit stretched thin.
I offered a very broad range of services. Too broad, in retrospect. I realized that the work I really found most enjoyable was fixing the little things. Handymen have a bad reputation. Deservedly so? In some cases, yes, I believe so. I do know, however, that there are some very skilled and honest ones.

Maybe you're thinking of tackling it yourself. Let me start by saying that this type of job is probably outside the skillset of the average homeowner.
One place to get these is the ReStore. They have been getting end-runs or seconds fresh from the wherever, so you never know exactly what colors & patterns they'll have, BUT, they're only like 50/sq.ft.! Dog peed? No problem: Take it outside & hose it off. Or just replace it. No carpet pad, which is OK with me, although it might not be cushy enough for some folks.
New VCT and stair edges. VCT stands for "Vinyl Composition Tile", and it's the stuff you see in schools, restaurants, government buildings, etc. It comes in 1ft square pieces, although you can't really see the joints in these pictures. You often see checkerboard patterns with this stuff. It's inexpensive, the wear layer is the ENTIRE 1/8 thickness, and the only downside, in my eyes, is that you might want to wax it occasionally.

With efficiency, expertise, and promptness, Mark Snapp has done all kinds of work on our house, from taking down/putting up old-fashioned storm windows to planing sticky doors to installing doorknobs to repairing outdoor woodwork to assembling bookcases to fixing a ceiling light, and on from there. He does consistently reliable work, and his prices are very reasonable. We feel extremely lucky to know we can call him for many different kinds of house repairs.
