The Studio for the Performing Arts, Inc. was founded in Newark, NY in 1997. Our goal is to give students a dance education in an environment that is structured, challenging, rewarding, and encouraging while promoting the love of dance. We meet various dance abilities with an array of well-disciplined classes.

We boast two large rehearsal rooms, all with full-length mirrors and barres. We also offer a wide range of fitness classes and a separate workout training circuit. Our dance program has been serving Newark and the surrounding communities for 26 years. Here at SPA we, the staff, are dedicated to the education of all of our students from age 2 to adult.

Heather is part owner of The Studio for the Performing Arts along with Phyllis Mouton and JoAnna Mott. In the fall of 2006, Heather became the Artistic Director of the newly founded Studio for the Performing Arts Ballet Company. Having begun her training at the age of five, it was not long before Heather realized her true love for ballet.
Our goal is to give students a dance education in an environment that is structured, challenging, rewarding, and encouraging while promoting the love of dance. We meet various dance abilities with an array of well-disciplined classes in ballet, hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, modern, and tap. Students are placed by their ability level in an age appropriate level as it is important that they are in a setting which allows them the most success.
The Creative Movement Class is the next step to develop our youngest dancers. Class time is extended to 45 minutes. The Creative Development curriculum is designed specifically to encourage their wonderful imaginations, love of movement and song, and to create a fun, yet educational classroom setting.
This class has been developed as the third step for our young dancers. In Pre-Combo, students are familiar with basic ballet and will continue to work on ballet vocabulary, form and technique. Students will now start learning the basics of Tap and/or Jazz, the terms, sounds and steps. The Class Time Increases to One Hour.
This program is designed to challenge aspiring dancers. Students continue their ballet and tap training, but also begin to learn two new forms of dance, jazz & lyrical. This is a fun filled 90 minute class. Studio for the Performing Arts (SPA Dance) offers Mini classes in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, musical theater, acro and modern to students throughout the Finger Lakes.

My daughter has danced at SPA for 6 years now. When we were first looking for a studio we asked friends where their children danced, but one answer ended up sticking out: “we started ‘elsewhere’ but ended up at SPA after my daughter really got into dance.” Curious about this trend I went to watch a few recitals and understood why they ended up at SPA when their dancers out grew creative movement classes.
SPA has a wide range of classes for all ages, but most importantly your dancer will learn from a tremendously talented group of choreographers. They will have the opportunity to grace
