Services
Son of Sandlar is a family owned company based in Savannah, Georgia with a proud history of crafting the finest in leather wares. For over six generations our family has hand-crafted leather boots and footwear. We observe a long standing tradition and take the utmost pride in our work. Our secret is simple: premium materials, superior designs and master craftsmanship.
We only use the highest premium grade of bull leather hides that are available to make the uppers for our boots. It's important to realize that leather is an animal skin and requires moisturizers. Treat the leather well and the boots will last you a lifetime. Ideally you should treat your leather every 3-6 months when being stored or more often and as needed with everyday use.
There are many factors that go into making quality Renaissance Footwear. As many have discovered, an attractive design with a high price tag doesn't always ensure a quality boot. Nor does a rugged structure mean a quality design. As we have been making Renaissance Footwear for five generations, we have mastered each element required for making the perfect pair of boots.
We at the Son of Sandlar workshop recognize that there are many options to choose from in selecting footwear that suits your needs. Wearing good boots is very important when you are trudging around a renaissance festival. With uneven terrains comprised of rocks, gravel, mud and dust, you need all the support you can get.
Special Orders: Orders with color combinations we do not have available in our workshop for immediate purchase and need to be set for production. Custom Orders: Orders that require modifications to existing patterns for different widths, ankle, arch, and calf sizes. Custom orders can also be taken to modify a boot with a different toe style or a special cuff design.

I ordered a set of 4-button boots from Son of Sandlar, and the arrived quickly and were gorgeous. Just what I wanted for festivals etc. Unfortunately they were too small. I contacted them, and arranged a custom fit and upgrade. They were extremely responsive and helpful, and my new boots are in production. Can't wait to get them. Five stars for the superb customer service thus far, and for the quality of the product I had to return. I'll update when I've had a chance to stomp around in the custom pair when they come.

I bought a vest from these folks. When delivered, it fit nothing like the model. When I asked about why it did not fit properly, I was told I should have "bought one for a more portly fitment." Newsflash, I have a 40 chest and a 32 waist. I will never buy anything from these folks again, and I will stand next to their shop and warn people about buying from them.
Beware of any business which states "All sales are final." It is often a scam.

Been looking to buy a pair if their boots at Ren Faires for years, finally bought a pair at King Richard's in Carver, MA. These guys were easy to work with, polite, professional, they walked me through care of my new boots and answered all my questions without hesitation. My only problem in the past was trying to decide which pair to get, I made my decision and have been wearing them everyday for the last week. I have a wide foot (EEE) and wear a 9-10.5 depending on brand, was hooked up with a SOS size 1 that fits like a glove! I also have a high arch, just loosen the lace between the 2nd

They make very good boots. The quality of the leather and craftsmanship is excellent.
However, after about three months of owning my boots (which cost over $300), the buttons which are screwed on, started to fall off. Everytime I wore my boots, i'd tighten the buttons but they would still fall off. To replace them, they cost about $15 each. This adds up pretty quick considering how fast they keep falling off...

Son of Sandler makes pre-made renaissance style leather boots and shoes - in a variety of styles and colors.
My first set of renaissance festival boots came from Son of Sandlar - bought them back in 1997 or 1998 - still have them and still wear them. Very comfortable! Wore them again last Sunday in the mud at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. Excellent traction even in the mud and very versatile! Can be worn with tights, kilts, pirate garb, and more!
