While weight loss surgery can be incredibly effective for many individuals, not everyone is a good candidate. In order to qualify for bariatric surgery, you must meet certain criteria related to your BMI, amount of excess weight, obesity-related diseases, and more. You have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher, with or without obesity related health issues.

I recently needed an emergency appendectomy. Normally, we use Cleveland Clinic and have not had much experience with the doctors here. I can not begin to thank Dr. Lars Nelson, Dan, Amanda. Also Bea, and Collette, the other nurses who took care of me and the staff at Halifax & ER for their superior care. Their amazing skill, compassion, understanding, time, and attention to every detail was astounding and I’m not an easy patient. I’m also in my 70’s and was out in 2 days. Surgery by Nelson in early May. Been very happy with the team and the support care. I’ve been encouraged to call the office with any concerns, and they’ve been great about answering questions. Initially thought all the nutrition and psychiatric prep I had to go through (mostly required by my insurance) was a waste of time but I’ve actually felt more prepared post op than some people I’ve met who had the surgery elsewhere.
