During the field survey on the property, it was noted that the site contains jurisdictional wetlands. Permits were required to be obtained from both the Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Environmental Protection for impacts to the onsite wetlands.
Nicodemus Slough is located west of Lake Okeechobee approximately 5.7 miles northwest of Moore Haven. The site encompasses approximately 2200 acres in Sections 4, 5, 8, 9, 16 & 17, Township 41 South, Range 32 East, Glades County Florida. The site is bordered on the east by SR 78, on the north by the Herbert Hoover Dike, on the west by private agricultural lands, and on the south by Levee 306.
The Fichter's Creek Restoration project includes a project area of 53.41 acres. The project is located within portions of Section 18, Township 43 South, Range 27 East, in Lee County, Florida. More specifically, the project site is located in North Fort Myers, within the State owned and Lee County managed, Caloosahatchee Regional Park.
Daniels Road Extension from Gateway Boulevard to SR 82 and Gunnery Road has been a long standing component of Lee County's transportation plans to provide access from Lehigh Acres to Fort Myers, and in particular to south Lee County. Lehigh Acres is a large residential community with limited job and shopping opportunities, creating extensive travel demand to Ft. Myers and south Lee County.
The project includes the widening of the existing Alico Road. The plans called for the addition of approximately 25 feet of ROW and the construction of an additional 4 travel lanes, medians and water management facilities. A swale was constructed from the road to the Briarcliff ditch to provide an adequate outfall for the water management facilities.
