If you've lost several adjacent teeth, or all your teeth, you may be relieved to know that there are many options to restore your smile beyond traditional dentures. Implants can support individual restorations, bridges, or even a full arch of teeth, partials or dentures. Bone loss also occurs. Without your tooth or an implant in the bone the missing tooth area will begin to disappear.
Periodontal disease in an infection that destroys the gum and bone surrounding your teeth. The main cause of periodontal disease (gum and bone disease) is bacterial plaque. This bacteria, if left untreated on your teeth, causes damage to your gums and the bone that supports your teeth. Periodontal disease is an interaction with your immune system and this plaque which can lead to premature tooth loss.
Gum recession maybe caused by: thin tissue, aggressive tooth brushing, abrasive toothpaste, hereditary, moving teeth with orthodontic treatment. Gum recession may also be a sign of periodontal disease. Gum recession results in root exposure; which makes teeth susceptible to acid erosion or cavities.
Socket preservation graft is performed in order to repair or maintain the area of the jaw where a tooth is being extracted. We only utilize bone graft material that has passed the strictest requirements set by the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The reason for a biopsy is to identify any unknown lesion, ulceration, growth, swelling, or sore in the mouth. Your dentist may refer you to our office for either a soft or hard tissue biopsy to allow for a diagnosis. A Biopsy is the process of removing a small piece of tissue for a Oral Pathologist to determine under microscope the proper diagnosis.
