Our strongest association is with the twin-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago.
For 40 years we were proud to be the exclusive North American booking agent for the Asa Wright Nature Centre, supporting their conservation mission through ecotourism. Challenges of the pandemic led to closure of this venerable pioneer ecolodge in January of 2020. Thankfully other delightful lodges have stepped up the challenge and we are able to continue our very popular birding and natural history tours, as well as independent travel.

There is no better introduction to birding the New World tropics than a trip to Trinidad and Tobago. The islands contain a diversity of easily-accessible habitats that allow unparalleled access to some of the world's most beautiful birds. Trinidad, only seven miles off the coast of Venezuela, contains an abundance of species found in northeastern South America, while Tobago's avifauna is more aligned to the Caribbean.
Trinidad and Tobago offer one of the best introductions to tropical birding on the planet! The islands rank high in biodiversity, blending species from Caribbean and South America origin. Your highly experienced local naturalist guides have an intimate knowledge of local birds, flora and fauna. With them, discover brilliant birdlife on carefully chosen field trips to a cross-section of habitats.
If your schedule does not match that of our Guided Group Tours, or you simply prefer to go at your own pace, we offer Independent Birding Ventures (IBV) to explore Trinidad and Tobago. With an IBV, you pick the dates, the length of your stay, and the activity level. Independent travelers join other guests, typically not more than six persons in a group, for the outings scheduled during your stay at Pax Guest House, Hyatt Regency or Mt.
We highly recommend Tobago for a relaxing lodge stay on the island. You will be immersed in nature! Activities can be done - at your pace and as you want to book them, or not. We work with two fine lodges which are located in different parts of the scenic island of Tobago. Cuffie River Nature Retreat is an intimate 10-room ecolodge in a lush mountain valley.

If this is the exclusive booking agent in US for Asa Wright Nature Center, then you will have to use them. If you are a birder, Asa Wright is fantastic. But food is adequate; service is sullen. Get your seconds at dinner quickly - clearing tables is the one thing the staff hops to. The naturalist who led our birding trips, Dave Ramlal, arranged through Asa Wright, was fantastic.
Caligo Ventures booked us at another hotel whose location was great and again, had the same unwilling service, but several degrees worse, as Asa Wright.
