Whit has been at the helm of Sprague Woodworking since 1979. He is semi-retired but continues to oversee the business, and shares his craft with his son Alex Sprague and son-in-law Glenn Pafford. Whit has over 50 years of woodworking experience and holds a Bachelor of Industrial Arts degree from Oswego State University.
Solid Wood counter tops are not new to us-since 1979 we have been building custom wood counter tops and cabinetry for our customers across the country. Over the years, our customers have asked us to build solid wood counter tops for many of their custom projects. We found ourselves putting wood counter tops on our kitchen cabinetry, built-in storage benches, desk areas and even fireplace mantels.
Plank Style also known as Face Grain wood counter tops are constructed using the face of the boards. In this style top the surface of the top has a wide grain pattern that shows the natural cathedral grains and swirls of the wood. We craft our custom wood plank countertops using boards that measure 3"-9" in width.
New to our counter top family are our custom reclaimed wood counter tops and live edge tops. The professionals at Sprague can expertly craft either option and have a variety of sources from which to collect solid wood material for both products. Both our live edge and reclaimed wood kitchen counter tops are limited in both species of wood and what our suppliers have available.

Alex and his firm are top notch to work with. We had a very large custom walnut butcher block style top made for our island -- and it looks amazing. Alex guided me through the process, and stayed connected throughout, culminating in an installation earlier this week. Beyond their outstanding quality and service, you can tell you are working with good people. Highly recommended.

I love Sprague Woodworking! I can speak highly enough about my experience with working with them and the quality of the product we received – we bought wood counter tops and they are gorgeous. They has so much warmth, detail and richness, I think they are my favorite part of our renovation.
Sprague did exactly what they said they would, in the time and price they quoted, and we delightful to work with.
And the pride they had in the counters really topped a great experience, fine craftsmen, good guys.
