Jim is the owner and president of the Green Cocoon, a Salisbury-based insulation company that specializes in eco-friendly insulation products and energy-efficient building projects.
As a Plastics Engineer, Jim started the Green Cocoon in 2007 as the need for better quality insulation products and more professional and forward thinking installers became more apparent. Jim studied Plastics Engineering as UMass Lowell and has started his MBA at the University of New Hampshire. When he is not working, Jim enjoys being outdoors soaking up the fresh air.

In May, The Green Cocoon stepped into a complicated insulation job during our renovation and knocked it out of the ball park for us. Our builder had gotten a quote from his own subcontractor for the new construction and renovation in the newer section of our house, but when we discovered that the exterior walls in the old part of our Victorian were not insulated it became apparent that this was going to be require some special effort.

Open cell foams are lower in R-value (3.8 vs. 7.0). Open cell foams have tremendous sound attenuating properties (STC 38 in a 24 wall assembly) and make for a substantial air-seal at greater thicknesses. In open cell spray foam, the tiny cells of the foam are not completely closed. The trapped air causes the R-value per inch to be lower than closed cell foam, but it also makes it an amazing sound dampener!

The Green Cocoon was recommended to us by our energy consultant 6 years ago when we began remodeling our 1950's house into a net-zero home powered by solar. After vetting other insulation service companies, we settled on the Green Cocoon to foam in the entire house creating an energy-saving envelope. Their work was impeccable, highly professional, with absolutely no issues, and we have had no electric or other utility bills to pay over the last 5 years. I recommend them for your consideration, they worked for us.

The Green Cocoon came two separate times to complete my job, spray foam and blown in cellulose. Both times, the guys were prompt, professional and did a fabulous job from start to finish. They went over the job with me upon arrival and did a walk through at completion. The one aspect of their work that I was most impressed with is how well they cleaned up at the end of the job.

We hired The Green Cocoon for air sealing and blow in cellulose in our 500 sq foot attic. They did a nice job and their service was responsive and professional throughout. Chris returned my call and got us a quote within a day. They were busy and had a month wait, but Joe was upfront about the scheduling and even squeezed us in a little earlier than promised. Anthony and team arrived on time, easily solved a couple of minor problems (lighting, venting), showed me the work when complete and left no trace in the house. I'd recommend them!

3rd time using The Green CoCoon and very satisfied. Their crews are very professional, do excellent work and leave the site clean. They always check in and make certain we are satisfied before leaving. Our latest job was finishing the main roof of our house. We previously had them do the roof on a "bonus room" / extension and when finishing the current work, they made sure to seal / tie-into the bonus room roof making sure there were no gaps. Highly recommend them

We had Green Cocoon spray foam our attic and basement band joist. We had multiple quotes and almost went with another company that came in a little lower, however once we pressed them to get the quotes the same the prices were the same. The entire team at Green Cocoon were professional and conscientious from the quote all the way through the process. When you are inviting people into your home it is comforting to have workmanship and people you can trust. They were patient when we had questions and made us feel they wanted to be sure we were happy with the job. BTW, the house is noticeably more

Great job by a great company. They came out, examined my basement and gave a very thorough review. They also gave me a very honest assessment as to what would give me the best result at the budget I could afford. Finally, they did the work as promised and left my basement much cleaner than it was when they came in.
