Our company was founded in 1977 by owner Larry Waller. He started in the shoe business by purchasing a shoe repair shop. After learning about the repair business from a 75 year old master, he wanted to learn how to make shoes. He then apprenticed to Dan Holliday to learn how to make his first pairs of shoes.
He attended the Merrill Boot Institute and learned about boot making and continued on to Ball State University to study orthopedics and orthotics. After considering many different options, he chose to make period and theatrical footwear. Walrus has supplied 15th, 17th and 18th century footwear to many of the largest living history museums in the country.

To quote the famous bootmaker Sam Lucchese, "Whether you are making shoes or boots, almost without exception you're going to need some sort of Last on which to make them." I want you to know, in my 28 years of shoemaking I have owned almost 50,000 pairs of Lasts. I've learned for a fact that the point is not how many Lasts you have, the point is, do you have the Last you need to make the shoes you want, and in the sizes you want.
Not a Click-Thru 'Site. We stock all the books we offer. All of the George Koleff books are written for the custom shoe and boot maker, that's what makes them different from anything else out there. His books provide a complete knowledge of these crafts, unlike most of the other books on the market.
This extraordinary work teaches you how to create lasts the essential foundation of finely crafted shoes and boots. Master shoemaker George Koleff clarifies the entire process. From giving you a solid understanding of what tools to use and how to use them correctly to effectively fashioning wood into lasts.
