We've been in downtown Tulsa for almost 30 years, but our story starts in 1917 when Julio Tumatoe won the Mexicali Cantina in a poker game. Ol' Julio was good at poker, but his wife was even better at cooking. As she made fresh Baja dishes from generational recipes in the little kitchen out back, word spread fast that Mexicali had the best food, the coldest drinks, and was the top choice for celebrating everything from birthdays to sundown.
Eventually, Julio and his wife handed us the recipes, gave us a big loan, and told us to "git after it." So here we are. Now, the question isn't when are you in the mood for fresh Tex-Mex, but, instead, when are you not? And for your cravings?

Wayyy too much pickled cabbage, could barely taste the rest of the ingredients, the pickle juice soaked through the tortilla & made everything fall apart. The beans & rice were good *together*. I liked the texture of the salsa (similar to Applebee's), but the taste wasn't there, the tortilla chips were good though.

I had their soup, I know, sounds crazy. But it was amazing. Nothing like I expected, but delicious. My mother in law had the chimichanga and also loved it. Finished off with two margaritas that were just as good! The server was good, and prompt. The atmosphere was nice, a but loud, but I expected that. Overall great, free parking.

This year we had our company Christmas party at the Mexicali Border Cafe. The food was great and the service was very friendly. I usually like to have the party at a little more posh venue, but the Cafe was perfect. I would say that we had the best conversations with our employees spouses because of the relaxed environment. One of the best Christmas parties to this date.

It’s been a few years since I’ve had a meal here and glad to say they haven’t changed, I always enjoyed their take on Mexican food. The salsa is still delicious and the pepper jack queso was great. I had a 3 way combo, the taco was very good as was the tamale and cheese enchilada. My wife liked her spinach enchilada and her cheese enchilada. The margarita was very good too. The service was great especially considering we’re in the middle of a global pandemic.

Great experience! Lunch service was fast and friendly. Good lunch specials, too. I got the Mexican street tacos lunch special #12 with chicken and it was delicious. The iced tea was great and everyone at my table was saying how much they like the ice tea there. I will definitely want to come again in the near future.

The service at Mexicali was wonderful. I made them aware of my lactose intolerance, and they helped me with the menu to make sure that I did not end up ill. Food that I did order was wonderful had a shredded beef burrito with chili on top. And it was lovely. We were never without chips and salsa.
And our drink glasses for kept full. This was a very pleasant evening oh, the meal and the service were terrific

The food and service both were outstanding. Entrees we had were Shrimp Enchilada Cozumel and the Three Amigos Enchiladas. We had stuffed peppers for appetizers and the tortillas soup. The complementary chips were fresh and crisp and the salsa was flavorful with a great texture. We never had tortilla soup like this. It was creamy, rich and savory. The four ample stuffed peppers had rich cheese oozing from great fried crusts on a plate of diced tomatoes, lettuce and sour cream. The entrees served with delicious beans were outstanding in texture and flavor. The 18-ounce margaritas also were tasty
