In 1960, George Lee (Buck) Smith, his brother Ernest (JR) Smith, and Raymond (Buck) Thomas left W.C. & A.N. Miller Construction Company to form Smith, Thomas & Smith, Inc., General Contractors (STS), specializing in residential remodeling in the Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Northwest DC neighborhoods.
From its inception, STS has performed various small remodeling projects and repairs (today called "Handyman" services), and small, medium and large projects and additions, utilizing an in-house designer (today called "Design Build"). In 1987, three employees of STS, Tom Brown, superintendent, John Gubisch, designer-draftsman-estimator and Michael Smith (son and nephew of JR and Buck), paint estimator, were offered and bought STS.

I am writing to express our appreciation for the excellent work Smith, Thomas & Smith performed in the renovation of our apartment. We are very pleased with the result and look forward to many years of living in our beautiful space.
We would especially like to express our thanks for the thoughtful and ever patient attention of Pat Keenan throughout the project and for the excellent work and supervision of Ronnie Edwards during the months involved in the renovation. With respect to the sub-contractors, we especially found Lou Zancan to be professional and responsive to any inquiries we had about the work.

We all do some kind of improvements to our homes. We may paint the walls a different color, or we could have new carpets and flooring fitted. But what happens if we run out of habitable space in our houses? The answer, of course, is to consider building an extra room. The most common route for growing families is to sell up and buy a bigger house elsewhere.
It's a well-known fact that two of the biggest selling points of any home are the kitchen and bathroom. They are essential rooms used by all occupants and serve a variety of purposes. As you can imagine, they come in all different shapes and sizes. It's no secret that your kitchen is one of the most used rooms in your house.
