West Coast Decks
Our History: Our company was established in November of 1990 and formed as a corporation in January of 1991. The principle owners are Ron Spillers and Joel Skillingstead. Ron has been in the deck industry since 1985 when he went to work for Weatherdecks, Inc. in Bellevue. Joel has been in the deck industry since 1978 when he was hired as the Production Manager for Eastside Vinyl Decks, also in Bellevue.

Both Joel and Ron own homes on the Eastside. Our Service: Our primary goal when we started West Coast Decks was to provide the best customer service available in the deck construction industry. We decided to make customer service our number one priority. This is why we both have cell phones and have a secretary who answers the phone and can assist customers immediately.
Services
This Fiberon Deck remains one of our most beautiful and accomplished designed decks. We hate to remove the photo as it is a clear example that with a dedicated and talented designer and construction crew, your outdoor living space can become a reality! Previous Service Awards for 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014! - check us out on Angie's List.
West Coast Decks formerly Decks by JRW uses only the finest building materials available for deck construction. The Bellevue store is a member of the Dunn family of lumber stores, which includes 10 locations in the Puget Sound area. Family owned since 1907, Dunn Lumber is known throughout the industry for providing extremely high quality and "hard to find" lumber products.
West Coast Decks aka Decks by JRW offers many different railing materials and styles. Most of our wood railings are built with Western Red Clear cedar. Some other railing materials would include composites, aluminum, glass, pipe, cable and wrought iron. We are also finding that combining different materials (i.e., aluminum and wood, composites and wood, composites and aluminum, etc.) makes for a very attractive and low maintenance railing system.
I want a big deck with lots of different levels but cannot afford to do the entire project at once. What are my options?. Q: Should I try to build my deck myself? A: Most decks are not extremely difficult to build. A ground level deck is perhaps the easiest of all to construct. If you have the proper tools, expertise and most important, a lot of time, you could build your own deck.
One of our estimators will visit your home. Weekend and evening bid times are available, however these times fill up fast so please try to allow 1-2 weeks to schedule a bid. Bid times during regular working hours are much easier to schedule. We will be asking you for your thoughts and ideas regarding your new deck project.

ZERO STARS due to incompetence, dishonesty and poor quality.

·Constant delays and no shows. For example, this was par for the course..."We'll be there Monday morning. No show. Call Wednesday and inquire, told they would be there Friday. No show Friday. Down payment made in January, build did not start until early September (partially covid delays, see more below), finished 13 weeks later for a total of 11 months which could have been much less given all the issues below.

· Owner doesn't live in the area. That's neither here nor there, but, if you're expecting local

Beware shady business practices. The sales/contact person's email was hacked (again). Per the owner, this has happened before. No notification from the company letting folks know, no one answered their phone (cell phone and office phone) for days. Phones track who calls, but still no call backs. Finally called the owner's cell phone and he happened to pick up.

I sent in the signed contract via email, responding to the sales person's email. The response to that email was asking for the $800 deposit to get on the schedule. Which makes sense. It came from THEIR EMAIL. So I

I've agonized for months over whether or not to write this review. I take seriously the idea that a bad review could hurt a company's business and, during COVID, I didn't want to make things harder than necessary for anyone. I ultimately decided our experience was so bad it warranted a warning to others considering hiring WCD for a project.

We hired WCD to tear down and replace aging and unsafe steps leading to our front porch. What was presented to us as a "small job" that would be "perfect for them during COVID" and would take "a couple days"

Simply one of the best deck building firms in The Puget Sound - and I would know (I run a 10-acre nursery and am a landscape architect). Led by a well respected and talented creative professional, Ron Spillers, who knows where to go for that unusual architectural accent, what deck material to specify, how to put together a professional plan and how to build it.

Requested quote to have deck rails replaced....Without requesting amount of rails replaced was told job to small and to contact a handy man service

Investigated composite deck rail Mfg(s) websites and was referred to this company by Mfg Links

If not even able to offer a quote why these Mfg(s) list this company as referral is amazing.
