Founder Steve Finden first started DCL after working ten years in the industry on both the framing and the supply sides of the industry. He knew that if he could build loads and deliver materials with the needs of the builders in mind, business would thrive.
We've stuck to that principle ever since: getting our customers what they needed, when they needed it, and delivering to maximize efficiency on the jobsite became the core of what doing good business was all about.Steve started the business in 1984 with a single truck, a $7500 loan from his father in law, and an idea of how he could do business differently.

So. We ordered Trex decking & rail materials in July of 2021. We received the materials in September- we weren't expecting quite the long wait- but understandable with the pandemic. The deck materials came in correctly, but, the rail spindles came in the wrong shape-round (were supposed to be square, aluminum). So, we thought the correct spindles were being ordered....I called to see if there was an update, shortly after the initial delivery. The re-order was still in limbo- so it was decided by the Nate to order the "adaptor" kit for us. We waited almost 2 weeks- and I called to ask for the status

I am so pleased to work with the team at Dakota County Lumber! We built a custom ADU home office in our yard! It was born from the sheer need for more room during COVID as both my husband and I as we will always work from home now. Doug - the Estimator did such a great job, using the hand drawn plans he sent a full materials list and the best thing is that we were able to return any unused materials to them. NOt only is that great from a financial standpoint but also an environmental standpoint, so much waste in building a new space.

Just had lumber, diamond piers and concrete bags delivered to my home. I called a few of the local lumber yards including the big stores and Dakota county lumber had the best prices around for what I was looking for. Their customer service was top notch and they made the ordering process seamless. The delivery came today and everything looks great. The delivery driver was very courteous and made sure to be as careful as possible when placing the pallets and lumber on my driveway. Highly recommend this company!

I completed my new home construction 1 year ago. I used dakota lumber for just about everything inside and out. Terry Weierke and the employees at dakota lumber are top notch! During construction Terry would personally meet me on site to assist in my order, give wonderful suggestions, and check measurements to ensure that my contractors received the correct materials. It's now been one year since I moved in. I had a door with a manufacturer defect I found and they took care of it quickly. I still order everything I need for my home from dakota lumber. Their delivers are quick and returns are easy
