Services
Quimper Mercantile is a totally unique store in Jefferson County - and possibly the world! When Jefferson County's last general store closed in 2012, citizens got together with the mission of creating a new general store to make sure that household and clothing needs could be supplied at home, and that local retail dollars and retail jobs could be kept in the community.
I grew up on the east coast, went to high school in Michigan and college in the New England area. In college, I studied art and also spent some time studying landscape design after I moved to. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. After failing in my attempt to become a rock star, I moved to Port Townsend in 1973 to be with my future wife, Lynne.
For our team at Quimper these guide our daily interactions with our customers and how we thrive together as a team. Our General Manager (GM) is responsible for the general operations of Quimper Mercantile and for fostering our reputation in the community as an entity that values profitability as well as community building, environmental concerns, and support of the local economy.
Today, Quimper Mercantile Company is not licensed to broker sales of shares. We do, however, have the ability to assist in the resale of stock from individual to individual. Deborah Stinson, one of the original founders and Quimper's Secretary/Treasurer, is the contact point for anyone interested in selling or buying shares.
In October of 2012, this wonderful community came together to create a new general store to make sure that household and clothing needs could be supplied at home, and that local retail dollars and retail jobs could be kept in the community. Nine years on, Quimper Mercantile is thriving because of YOU - our customers and over 800 community shareholders.

I'm a local and I've been in just about every store in town. I know they are geared toward tourist...
But sometimes we return folks need things too!
Gifts or for ourselves. While I do like coming in your store, it's a bit spendy got some items.
The women's clothing only caters to petite or junior sizes. Nothing in Women's, like sizes 2x and up. I have asked this many times.
And now days people don't have _200 yo spend on leggings or other articles of clothing.
It would be nice to see some really good sales in there like half off. Mostly it's 10% or 20% off of something that's $150. Anyway

My wife and I spent a vacation in Port Townsend and stopped in to check the place out. We were very impressed with the place. I bought a durable, middle-weight jacket and a new belt, my wife bought a pair of sunglasses and a few other smaller items. Service was polite and friendly. All around, will definitely return on our next trip up the peninsula.

We were visiting Port Townsend as tourists this week, and while eating lunch saw the store and decided to check it out. It's a true general store feel with everything from cooking utensils to clothing. Toys and camping equipment. We spent time walking through the store and found some great items, including some Sea Monkeys

Fun store. A little bit Cabela's and part your neighborhood shop for gifts and kitchen. Need something you forgot to back. Go there. Buy a gift for pet sitter. Go there. From camping to Columbia to Life is Good hats or t-shirts. The Mercantile store is a sweet store most would enjoy in their neighborhood.

Really cool store to shop in. Reminds me of an old-time variety shop or department store. Housewares, clothing, shoes, gift items, camping and fishing equipment as well as Discovery passes and fishing licenses. Sewing supplies and toys too. Local artists goods are up for grabs which is always preferable to me to support local artisians.

This place has it all! And I couldn't be more thankful since when I was packing, I forgot extra pants and during the hike back from the glass beach it rained...strike that poured on us. I found reasonably priced comfy clothes so I could shower and be dry back at the hotel. The customer service here is outstanding! They have a little bit of everything so there is something for everyone and the prices are pretty decent!

I love Quimper Mercantile. I make a point to stop by here every time I am in Port Townsend. They have everything. Need kitchen stuff? They have it. Need coats or hoodies? They have options. Forgot pajamas for your vacation? They got you. Want to get your kid a new toy so you have a few moments of peace? They will help you out. Want some hiking shoes for the state parks nearby? Look no further. Impromptu camping trip? They have what you need. What about a souvenir for that friend that you promised back home? They stock that too. Seriously, everything.

On top of that, the staff is super nice and

I lived in PT when Swain's closed, and it was a great loss to the town since it's really hard to buy anything that isn't overpriced clothes or geared to tourists in the other stores. It was so bad that the only underwear in town was sold in Doc's drugstore. When the Mercantile first opened, my friends and I were sorely disappointed. But after they got going and were able to expand their inventory and merchandise selection, things really turned around. I visit my friends in PT about 4 times a year, and we always stop in to browse - and I inevitably find something great to purchase

This store is absolutely fabulous. It is a must stop while in Port Townsend. Walking through the doors makes me feel like I just stepped into a time warp - back into the days when there were Woolworths, five and dimes, and well, mercantiles.

There is a fantastic assortment of goods here, but all great brands. Life is Good, Keen, Columbia, Prana, Melissa and Doug, you name it.

Prices are usually great on outerwear and they actually mark brand items down that you don't normally see marked down (Columbia rain jackets for 28,99).

I never fail to find something while here. Great stop just to

Just suppose you were visiting Port Townsend in December and in your packing frenzy, you forgot to bring a coat. Quimper is the place for you.

Your 7 year old also didn't bring a coat (despite being reminded of this as he was getting into the car). Quimper is the place for you.

Your father in law needs new shoes. Quimper can help him out.

Even though you aren't camping, you catch sight of the enormous camping section. Thank you Quimper, for these unique and useful gifts.

You're tired of carrying a whole box of cereal for your baby to snack on and WHAT DO YOU KNOW? Quimper has

Love to stop by the Mercantile when I'm in town. It is a community run store. Likely not easy to make a profit. We purchased a night shirt and par of gloves on our visit yesterday. We try to buy a few things to help it cause. Hopefully others do the same.

Prices are insane, and they seem to not like children in their store. Every time I have been in that store since they opened they have followed me around, can't help but feel that they might think customers are stealing..which is a really problematic shopping environment.

We were excited to see what this store was all about. They have toys but do not want kids to look, touch or breathe anywhere near them. The owners acted like our family coming in was a huge inconvenience and were extremely rude to my kids and my husband. We were there with money to spend. However, after the way we were treated we will not ever be coming back.

This isn't an elegant, clever review.

Sorry...but then again,Quimper Mercantile isn't an elegant, clever store.
Its a plain, homespun community sponsored place which has opened its doors to the public during the past week. Quimper Mercantile occupies a large store front on Water Street left vacant by the departure of Swains.

Swains had been the place to go for almost anything; when Swain's doors suddently closed, there was a gigantic hole left in this community.Where to buy heavy socks? Where to buy bluejeans, jack knives, fishing gear. Where to go for shoes, boots, raincoats,
