Founder and President Kathy Colby started in the financial services industry in 1985 and Financial Independents, Inc. was founded in 1997. For more than 30 years, we have been helping clients like you build wealth and work toward their financial and retirement goals. Our main focus is you and always will be, from having children, graduating college, buying a home and planning a happy retirement.

We believe successful relationships begin with a clear understanding of each client's specific needs, concerns and long-term objectives. Investment time horizon, income and liquidity requirements, prior investment experiences and tolerance for risk are all factors that help us to build the framework for your Fiduciary relationship.

Although we welcome and provide services to all types of clients, we have extensive experience in retirement planning for employees of General Motors, the State of Michigan and the City of Lansing. For over 17 years, we have taught various pre-retirement and money management classes for GM. We've also been frequent speakers and guest presenters at conferences and organizations in Michigan and Illinois.
