A friend recently lent me a copy of the 1966 CCC Journal that she had found in her house at Colintraive and a number of aspects struck me. With more than 60 articles, there were 24 cruising logs - from Oslo to Benodet. It was interesting to re-read the article on the dismasting of Christina of Cascais during the North Channel Race en route to Bangor, ably escorted home by Arcturus.
Learn to sail at the CCC Dinghy Section based at Bardowie Loch on the outskirts of Milngavie. CCC has a long history of representing sailors and their interests to official bodies, government and local authorities. There is no entry fee. The term Family includes Spouses/Partners and, where applicable, Sons and Daughters of 24 years of age and under all resident at the same address.
One traditionally held version of the formation of the Club is that on a November night in 1909 four young men were standing on the starboard paddle box of the Duchess of Montrose heading for Wemyss Bay from Rothesay where they had been storing gear from their laid-up boats.

They felt it was a pity that they would see so little of each other during the winter since one of the great pleasures of cruising was to get to an anchorage, find other yachts and go aboard for a yarn. They agreed that none of the established Yacht Clubs catered solely for the cruising man and that such a Club would be an asset to the sailing fraternity.
