Flowers Hospital Center For Metabolic & Weight Loss Surgery
Obesity is a chronic disease that has many contributing factors, including your environment, genetics, physiology and psychology, metabolism and behavior. Obesity contributes to the risk of developing serious medical conditions, such as respiratory and cardiac problems, depression and cancer. It is also the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States.

Fortunately, there are options to help you change your future and well-being. Bariatric surgery accreditation demonstrates a commitment by Flowers Hospital, the surgeons and our Weight Loss Surgery Center to build and maintain a bariatric surgery program that is dedicated to excellence.
Services
Weight loss surgery, also called bariatric surgery, offers a proven and effective way for men and women to lose weight when diet and exercise alone have not worked. Flowers Bariatric Center provides laparoscopic gastric-sleeve surgeries to help individuals gain control of their weight and pursue healthy lifestyles.
Gastric-sleeve surgery is also called sleeve gastrectomy or simply, 'the sleeve'. This surgery was originally performed as the first of a two-stage bariatric procedure for morbidly obese patients. However, the weight loss results negated the need for the second-phase of surgery. During gastric sleeve surgery, your bariatric surgeon removes approximately 80 percent of your stomach, leaving a narrower, cylinder-shaped 'sleeve'.
You have chosen to make a lifestyle change toward a new and healthier you. At Flowers Hospital, we understand that this is not an easy decision to make, and we are prepared to guide you through this journey one step at a time. To begin your journey toward a healthier lifestyle, contact our Bariatric Navigator to schedule your first appointment.
Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or greater or be 100 or more pounds overweight from your ideal body weight. A BMI calculator is available at our website. If BMI is between 35 and 40, you must have at least one significant medical condition such as diabetes, hypertension or sleep apnea. Contact your insurance company to verify if your insurance policy covers bariatric surgery.
Hi everyone, my name is Bridgette Barkley. Dr. Scott Robbins did my gastric sleeve surgery here at Flowers Hospital, and I can honestly say my life has forever changed since I've had my surgery. I've lost over 130 pounds so far. My highest weight was 345, today I currently weigh around 198-195 somewhere around there.

Very disappointed in the handling of my care. I was 1st told insurance would pay for my surgery then I get a call to schedule my surgery and then told my insurance would pay for it. I meet with my surgeon scheduled my colonoscopy and EGD for September 19. I went to the the Center to get my red folder and start my payment with the center to be told that they were not sure if my insurance would pay for the surgery. I was told they would have to get back with me and if insurance would not pay they would give my money back. The next week, August 21st, I get a call Dothan Surgery Center to give me the

The bariatric coordinator was so rude to me. I am from about 2 hours away from Dothan, so when making my first couple of appointments I requested to make some of them on the same day since I was driving 2 hours. She snidely replied "um, some of our patients drive 4 hours". She was so rude it was almost like I was being pranked. And bare in mind you work very closely with the bariatric cordinator, so the fact the she's rude is awful. I would highly suggest finding another program. The care I received from them would have to be the worst care I've ever received.

The staff at Flowers Hospital took very good care of my mom. She was admitted on December 15, 2014 and was discharged in March of 2015. They did all they could when her heart stopped 3 times. The staff was compassionate and understanding. I am especially grateful to the nurse named John who took care of her. He treated her like she was his mom. I thank God for the staff.

I was in a dirty room! The bed had iodine on the sheets and a packet in the floor , the nurse drew my blood on a table that had food crumbs on it and didn't wear gloves! The trash can was over filled and trash was falling on the floor as well. I was there from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. only to have blood and urine checked . I know it takes a while to spin the blood but not that long . Dr. Alzo walked around eating all night came in the room eating with crumbs on his mouth . He mumbled with food in his mouth I couldn't hear ANYTHING HE SAID! I know it is a hospital and isnt always be comfortable.. I still

My 21 month old daughter had a seizure followed by vomiting while we were on our way to the beach, Flower's was great and even called a few days later to check on her.
Even though they're not a pediatric hospital, they took very good care of my baby girl.
Very pleased with our visit and so glad Dothan AL is where we were when this happened.

Emergency room visit... checked in Sunday at noon. Saw a Dr. at 4:30pm. Received almost no attention. At 7:00pm, I walked out. If life threatening, go elsewhere. I won't return.
