Children's Theatre of Elgin / Fox Valley Theatre Company is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Elgin, Illinois. Its two troupes form one of the oldest, largest, and most exciting children's theater companies in the state. We develop fun and exciting programs that offer a maximum number of children, youth, and young adults an affordable opportunity to experience the performing arts, either as participants or audience members.
In 1988, CTE was founded with the goal of casting as many interested young people as we possibly could so they could have a chance to learn, improve, perform - and have fun! And that's still our goal. Every show starts with an open casting call, meaning that anyone in the right age group may audition and the roles are not pre-cast.
Children's Theatre of Elgin offers interactive workshops that teach theater skills, explore imagination, and help increase confidence on stage and off, not to mention the fun with other kids who love theater! If CTE cancels a workshop, parents will be notified by email along with a rescheduled date and time.
Performances are at The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin, Illinois 60120, with plenty of free parking for buses and cars. Your students will love our school show performances! Children's Theatre of Elgin (CTE) was founded in 1988 by brothers Peter and David Akemann in response to a community need for performing arts opportunities that allowed for casting every child who was willing to work hard. Originally partnering with the City of Elgin Recreation Department, CTE soon became an established Elgin-based Illinois 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization in-residence at the Elgin Community College Arts Center.
