The Children's Ballet Theatre was founded by Denise Jacks (Miss Deni) in Danville, Indiana in 1987. Originally trained by Inge Pedivoli in classical French and Russian methods, Miss Deni also studied at Butler University's Jordan College of Music and Dance. As a performer, Miss Deni danced lead roles in "Giselle, " "The Cinderella Ballet, " and "The Nutcracker, " as well as supporting roles in many performances.
We are a classical ballet school, serving students of all ages from Danville, Avon, Plainfield, Brownsburg and other areas around Hendricks County, Indiana. Since our founding in 1987, we have been dedicated to helping students develop self-discipline, dedication, positive self-esteem, and an appreciation for the art of dance.
Anne Johansson grew up in Danville and was a student in the first class at The Children's Ballet in 1987. Anne danced with the school through high school, and appeared in the Indianapolis Ballet Theatre's 1989 Midwest tour of "The Nutcracker." Anne founded an event planning firm in 2010 and has organized weddings, corporate and social events across central Indiana.
While classes at The Children's Ballet are structured around the needs and goals of each group of students, our teachers rely primarily on a curriculum based on the Cecchetti method. This style of dance education was developed by the Italian ballet master Enrico Cecchetti (1850 - 1928) and focuses on teaching each dancer correct posture and technique with a purity of line and simplicity of style.
We know kids today have so many choices for after-school activities. That's why we are so grateful for the hundreds of families who have chosen to spend time in our studio over the years. As Hendricks County's only non-profit ballet studio, The Children's Ballet depends on the generous support of parents, alumni and community partners to offer accessible, high-quality dance education.
