During the Civil War, only a Colonel was allowed to decide how to divvy up the spoils of war among his winning soldiers, who would view and bid on the items they wanted. Although Jim did not have to win a battle, he will certainly take charge and fight hard for those winning bids! The sale features Cal Poly horses trained and ridden by Cal Poly students under the guidance of Lou Moore Jacobson.
It means a great deal to me and the Foundation that you and Community Bank of Santa Maria supported our benefit concert at the Lobero Theatre with the legendary Count Basie Orchestra and guest artist Paula Cole. This benefit concert will make the establishment of "Harry's House at the Golden Inn & Village" - a home for Alzheimer's and Assisted Living a reality.

I grew up on a cattle ranch and have attended auctions all of my life. I have always been intrigued by the 'chant' of the auctioneer. Auctions provide an environment where perceived value is determined through competitive bidding. An auction is economics in its purest form. No auctioneer is more dedicated to an event than Jim Glines.
Why should we hire a professional auctioneer when we have someone that will do it for free? A. Many times nonprofit organizations are offered the 'free' services of a volunteer auctioneer. That volunteer could be a local celebrity or MC who thinks they can shout out some numbers and get people to bid.
As the CEO and president of Chappellet Winery we are involved with Auctions all over the country. I have attended and been intimately involved all areas of fund raising at auctions and can absolutely say that Jim and his Cowboy hatted compadres are the best spotters and work the room better than any others that I've seen.
Jim feels strongly that it is vital to the success of the event that he personally meet with the planning committee prior to the auction. Live auctions historically produce two-thirds to three-quarters of the net profits that you will raise during your event. You must carefully examine how you display and choreograph your auction to efficiently reap the profits from the night's feature presentation.
