Ponderosa Forge & Ironworks
Take a step back in time and see an old-world craft being practiced behind the doors of Ponderosa Forge. We are located in the small mountain town of Sisters on the eastern slope of the Oregon Cascades. We take pride in using traditional methods of blacksmithing to produce hand-forged ironwork that replicates the craft of a bye-gone era, a time when "hand-made" was the only way!

Nothing compares to the sound of hammers striking iron and the feel of the intense heat as we transform iron bars into beautiful works of art. You'll see old-world practices and craftsmanship just as it was done in the mid-1800s. In fact, some of our machinery dates back that far! The look and feel of true hand-forged ironwork is different than mass-produced, painted or powder-coated cast iron and fabricated steel.
Services
From the foot of the Oregon Cascade Mountains, amongst the Ponderosa Pine and Juniper, the sound of hammers and the roar of fire breaks the silence of a small western town. Stepping back more than 100 years, the blacksmith shop was often the gathering place where people would stop by to get their horse shod, or their buggy fixed, to get a tool made, or an axe sharpened, or to have an item fashioned for their home or hearth.
Nothing says comfort like the cozy warmth of a real fireplace. And nothing enhances the look and feel of a fireplace like a hand-forged, hand-hammered set fireplace doors. Custom-made is the only way. Our original fireplace door system is easy to use.

You can create your own unique door design by choosing from our wide variety of options including: arched or rectangle openings, screen or glass, with various styles of handles, hinges, and door accents. If you're building a new fireplace, we provide a masons frame that is installed to the rough-in before the rock veneer is applied.
The warmth and usability of your fireplace will be enhanced greatly by a set of hand-forged fireplace doors from Ponderosa Forge. Our doors are in lodges and homes across the country, and every set is unique in design. We build a Mason's Frame to be used in new construction to make an easy installation while providing a built-in look.
Q: What is "Wrought Iron"? Wrought iron is actually an iron alloy with very low carbon content. It was very common in the 1800s, and was replaced by mild steel which was superior in strength and workability. Wrought iron is no longer produced on a commercial scale. Many products are described as "wrought iron, " such railings, fences, and gates, but they are actually made of mild steel.
Every piece is one-of-a-kind, an expression of the blacksmith's art, finer than work found in many boutiques -- but you won't have to pay boutique prices. Since each piece is sold directly through our showroom, homeowners and builders can buy direct from the artisans who create the work right in our shop in Sisters, Oregon.

We spent 30 minutes here admiring the craftsmanship in the showroom, then had an interesting tour of the shop, seeing the blacksmiths' work firsthand. Impressive!

Ponderosa Forge has become a fixture in Sisters. They are true craftsman and make a great product. It’s very cool having one of only a handful of fulling operating traditional forges right here in town.
