Oxygen is not flammable, but it can cause other materials that burn to Ignite more easily and to bum far more rapidly. The result is that a fire involving oxygen can appear explosive-like. Oxygen is of great benefit to those in need of oxygen therapy but it should always be handled with caution and awareness of the potential hazards.
About 3,500 Americans die each year in fires and about 20,000 are injured. You can stop the fire before it starts. Use this fact sheet to learn how to prevent a fire in your home and know what to do if you have a fire. One of the best ways to protect yourself and your family is to have a working smoke alarm that can sound fast for both a fire that has flames, and a smoky fire that has fumes without flames.
Coil or tape wires (such as extension cords or lamp or phone cords) next to the wall so you can't trip over them. If you need another power outlet, have an electrician install one. Move items in your cabinets so that the things you use a lot are on the lower shelves (about waist level). If you have burned-out light bulbs in the stairway, have a friend or family member change them.

The staff has always been extremely helpful with my parents oxygen needs but went above and beyond recently. My mom’s concentrator stopped working, it was almost their closing time and my parents live way out in the country. I was stuck at work so they had a driver bring it by my job so I could take it to my mom that evening. Really phenomenal service!

My mother was discharged from Encompass rehab facility this morning. She recently broke her femur. The facility called A1 to get the equipment she would need for the house. There was a problem with some paperwork so she called Medicare to get the problem resolved and then called A1 to tell them she fixed the issue. The man on the phone was extremely rude to my mother(she was in tears), and basically told her usually Medicare will deny the first and possibly second submission for payment. If that happened he wasn’t going to waste his time and she would have to pay the bill. My mother has Medicare
