I see structural engineering as a combination of science, art, and service, and I strive to excel in each of those facets of the profession. I provide consulting and expert services to support the resolution of disputes involving construction defects, structural failures, and professional negligence.

Joshua's studies and doctoral dissertation have established his reputation as a leader in the field of structural engineering. Early involvement of the structural engineer results in better project outcomes for the owner and for the architect. Architects know that structural engineering is only a portion of the work necessary for a successful project.

Ideally, the involvement of a structural engineer results in more economical construction and better structural performance of a building. Architects know that structural engineering is only a portion of the work necessary for a successful project.

By the terms of their licenses, California Architects have to know how to do the structural engineering of a project, and they can take responsibility for the structural engineering for any building except hospitals. However, because most building projects are complex, even (or especially) the small residential remodel projects, architects and owners turn to engineers who practice structural engineering to provide their professional services.
I provide consulting services and support in engineering litigation matters so that you can present your case with confidence. When you need to effectively present evidence or expert testimony, our Litigation Support Services team is on your side. Joshua B. Kardon + Co offers litigation consulting as well as pre-, post- and in-trial jury consulting services and expert testimony.

Josh was very kind and helpful in providing feedback on an early inquiry as to how I should approach working with a structural engineer and contractor in an aspirational project I've started to think through.

His calm, kind and approachable energy is exactly the kind of professionalism you want on your upcoming project.

When Joshua Kardon informed us that we might have to spend a considerable portion of the above purchase price to properly fix up the house, make it earthquake-safe, and bring it up to current codes, we decided to pass on this lovely house. (He told us that replacing the cracked original foundation and raising the basement ceiling from

TLDR: Pretty low value-add and expensive

We purchased a new home that had a crack in our foundation. We needed to have the crack checked by a structural engineer. Our inquiry was quickly responded to by Joshua B Kardon + Co, which is a bonus given how busy many structural engineers are during this season.

However, the individual that showed up appeared to have to be reticent about going into the crawl space. He stated that he could not find the foundation crack. All pictures were at the front of the crawlspace entrance. Despite being billed for over 2.5 hours of work ($650), all we received
