Megan Lewis Law
We lead clients through proactive, step-by-step estate planning to minimize estate taxes, give peace of mind, facilitate assistance from designated friends and family, and reduce risk of discord and litigation among family. Estate planning provides not only distribution of assets after death, but also an orderly approach for aging-in-place and tools to enable adult children or other caregivers to care for elders, physically or financially.

We handle both moderate and high net worth clients. Everyone benefits from having their "affairs in order", regardless of net worth. Invest in the right plan now. Probate is the process by which the terms of someone's Will are followed, including the appointment of a personal representative (executor).
Services
I'm married, so I don't need a will because everything will go to my spouse automatically upon my death. By law, your spouse is the heir to your community property, but will likely have to go through probate to actually transfer assets into your spouse's name without the right planning.

However, if you have separate property, a portion of that property may be required to go to your children from a prior marriage, parents, or siblings instead of your spouse. With proper estate planning, it is likely you can avoid probate on the first of your deaths and possibly on the second as well.
Don't be that person who leaves his or her family behind without a coordinated plan.

Even if you don't have an "estate" that requires complex planning, everyone benefits from a basic understanding of the process and appropriate documents which allow loved ones to care for you when you can't care for yourself, transfer assets as easily as possible upon your death, avoid probate, clarify who has the authority to act for you and what powers they have, and avoid disputes among family members.
Now is the time to invest in yourself and your family. Estate planning is necessary for everyone. Estate planning refers to a broad range of techniques, considerations, organization, information, arrangements, and, finally, documents, established for others to care for you when you can't care for yourself (because of age, accident, influence, disease, etc.) and to provide for your loved ones after you pass away.
We understand what you're going through and have experienced it personally first-hand, as well as every day in our practice. When people die, there are many steps to follow to take care of their affairs and transfer assets to survivors. Not only are there procedures surrounding transferring debts and assets, but there are strategic moves families can take to protect assets down the line or minimize estate or income taxes.
Forming and operating a business are exciting times in your life. As a Spokane business attorney, I can help. From creation and operation to transfer or sale, I can guide and assist you in the process. Entering into business with friends, family or investors can lead to tricky situations.

Get agreements in writing upfront while relationships are good and memories are fresh, so you have a predetermined process for how things will work when you go your separate ways.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Megan and the staff at Megan Lewis Law. We had to navigate the trials that come with teleconferencing during the COVID-19 pandemic and found it to be a perfect solution to dealing with numerous questions we had about estate planning and will preparation. Megan took all the time we needed to feel confident and secure in our planning and decision making. Her administrative assistant Seth was also a delight to work with and made the process very smooth for us. I would highly recommend this law office to anyone who is considering will and estate planning.

My husband and I sometimes are not in sync with regard to managing our affairs. Meeting Attorney Megan Lewis and Team allowed us to be ourselves and share our own perspectives for the future. Megan Lewis addressed our challenges not only in a professional and business manner, but with a human touch as well. Our questions and concerns were satisfactorily answered. We feel as though we now know Washington State's take on Trusts and Estates, thanks to Attorney Lewis. I highly recommend Attorney Megan Lewis if you're in need of adopting or revising your Trust or Will.

Megan helped me set up my will after getting divorced. It was such a stressful thing to even think about. First of all, she is the kindest, human, and such a great communicator. She really listened to me, and was able to put me completely at ease. The process was so streamline and efficient. Working with her and her team beyond exceeded my expectations. There is so much comfort in knowing my family will be able to enjoy my legacy, and that they will not be burdened by my passing. Thank you Megan for everything.

Needed to talk to an attorney regarding possible trust/probate issues and called Megan Lewis's office and got a answering machine and left a message for someone to call me. It has now been 2 days and NO CALL BACK! Guess they don't need my business! Hopefully they don't treat their paying clients this way....I will be contacting another attorney in the area....

I was in the midst of a family crisis almost 2 years ago when I first contacted Megan (who was recommended by a trusted friend). She returned my calls promptly and provided sound advice. I found her to be empathetic and knowledgeable. She is currently helping my wife and I with estate planning. This process is complicated and potentially very confusing but Megan patiently works through the details, explains the options and guides us in our decision making. We are VERY happy to have found her.

Like many, I had been putting off my will and estate planning. I have a blended family and it seemed too complicated, too scary, too much effort, too much everything. I knew I needed to get it done and I had a jumble of ideas regarding my estate, but no idea how or where to start. Then I met Megan.
Megan helped my wife and I immensely. She was able to clean up our ideas and put together a logical and sound document for us. I am very satisfied with the process and end result!
She is easy to work with, she can translate lawyer-talk for us non-legal people, and she is very fair with her time.
