Camp Onomia
We invite you to encounter Christ through Creation and Community along the shores of Shakopee Lake! Camp Onomia is a Lutheran Outdoor Ministry which welcomes you to retreat, renew, and refresh. Come and stay a while! We offer fully programmed summer camp sessions for youth and families and year-round weekend retreats for everyone!

Let our excellent staff plan and lead a Christ-centered program that is bound to encourage deeper faith and lasting friendships. Camp Onomia is an excellent, welcoming place to hold your next church group, family reunion, or business retreat. Our location on scenic Lake Shakopee is surrounded by Kathio State Park and is within 80 minutes of most Twin Cities homes.
Services
Camp Onomia was born in 1949 by an association of Lutheran congregations desiring to establish "a place set apart" for Christian nurture and study. The founding name of the camp was American Lutheran Memorial Camp. For over 70 years we have provided our churches and families refuge, recreation, and renewal in our journey of faith.
Onomia lifts up the firm foundation of its Lutheran theological heritage while encouraging people of all faiths to encounter Christ in this holy place. Therefore, we pledge to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God as in Micah 6:8. The camp experience has proven to be a significant foundation in the development of Christian faith and values in both children and adults.
Grab your rakes and shovels and chain saws and brush and carpentry tools and paint brushes and cleaning supplies and join us for a day of community work as we gather to get camp ready for a busy summer season. Summer camp is BACK! We need you to help get this place back into shape. Our annual QUILT AUCTION will be back at camp this fall with oodles of quality quilts to choose from.
We love to partner with our churches to provide a week-long camp experience in the local congregation. Interested in a Day Camp type program designed for middle school students? Ask us about our SERVEcamp model where you line up local service projects and we provide content, Bible study, and evening campfire.
Towering pines and plenty of wildlife make up the grounds at Camp Onomia. If you are seeking a peaceful location set apart from noise and distraction, it is here on our park-like setting on Shakopee Lake. We are surrounded by the Rum River State Forest and Mille Lacs - Kathio State Park adding multiple layers of God's creation to block out the stresses of every day life.

I was a counselor in 2000 and 2001. Having great memories from camp. And...I am looking for someone. Does anyone know a woman called “Tammy Inshley”? We worked together in the kitchen. I would love to find her.
