Bluegrass Psychiatry
We provide comprehensive therapy, counseling, and psychiatric services in Howard County, Maryland. Some of the worst disorders and diseases affect the brain and mind. We address these disorders and diseases with counseling, therapy, and medications when needed so that you can change your life. Find out about our organization, mission, our methods, and the results of our decades of experience.
Services
Our independent contractors make Bluegrass Mental Health the effective organization it is. Our therapists, counselors, psychiatrists and nurse practitioners independently contract to provide services for our patients and clients, and Bluegrass provides the support needed for them to do their work in a professional and supportive environment.
Our experienced psychiatrist and psychiatric nurse practitioners specialize in treating mental illness in every age group. We use medications and therapy to treat ADHD, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depressive disorders, eating disorders, and psychotic disorders in children, adolescents, and adults.
Many adults suffer with symptoms of ADHD and either don't recognize it, or have learned to cope with it, but treating the symptoms can make a big difference in a person's life. Small breaks in strict routines can cause extreme disruption in daily life (if asked to do one more task, the whole routine can be thrown off).
When a disease is serious, does not respond to usual treatments, and is likely to respond to medical cannabis, Maryland patients now have the ability to be evaluated and to try to treat their symptoms/disease with medical cannabis. Patients are now being qualified and recommendations issued for treatment for appropriate patients.
Group psychotherapy or group therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which one or more therapists treat a small group of clients at the same time. The term can refer to any form of psychotherapy when delivered in a group format, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

Not sure about all of the negative reviews, but my experience with Bluegrass has been great so far! My provider listens to my concerns and I am able to easily schedule a follow-up appointment with her to keep up with my treatment plan.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Mathis for 4 years or so. He is an amazing doctor and man. Has saved my life many times and is the best doctor I’ve ever had. He cares a lot about his patients and it shows. He is always there for me. Grateful for Bluegrass Psychiatry!

I really appreciate all the help Dr Sarah Aleem has given my family and especially my son. I am continuing to bring him to her and I find her very resourceful, attentive and always there when i need her. Luckily I have not had a bad experience with the Front Office Lady!

Dr Mathis is an amazing psychiatrist with a ton of experience. He always makes himself available to his patients and will go out of his way to help them. Just generally a good guy. I've had multiple psychiatrists (and he's by far the best) and therapists, but he's the only one I've dealt with at Bluegrass Psychiatry.
The front desk staff are very helpful and knowledgeable as well.

I saw Dr David Forbes. Professional and listens well. Sad for me he is retiring. Office is clean and comfortable with minimal wait time. Down side the receptionist is rude unfriendly. She refuses eye contact and dismissive. Its a shame she is the first thing you meet. Leaves a bad taste every time i had to deal with her.

I went to this practice seeking medication management and it took weeks to a month to book a appointment. The doctor that prescribed me my medication was good and attentive, the issue lies with the receptionist in the morning. SHE is utterly rude, incompetent and very unprofessional. The only way to get in contact with your doctor there if you have a question about your medication or whatever has to go through the receptionist Inga first. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to email her to relay a message to my doctor. Sometimes taking up to 4 days for a response just to say “sorry I

I have been a patient of Dr. Mathis for many years. He’s a great mental health practitioner that genuinely cares about his patients. Although, he’s no longer actively practicing, he took the time to diligently hand pick each provider for his practice. I highly recommend Bluegrass Psychiatry.

Extremely competent staff--my life has been changed and I appreciate the effort to make life matter again. It takes all the right parts: medicine, therapy, and caring people, this place has them all. Very professional, very effective.

Extremely unprofessional and rude counselor who made numerous inappropriate comments to our minor child, my wife and eventually myself. After requesting contact information for head of facility to file a complaint, spoke on the telephone with the Business Manager who did absolutely nothing to address our concerns. In fact, he appeared to have more concern regarding potential loss of clients, and consequently revenue, if the counselor were terminated as recommended. Apparently, priority of Bluegrass Mental Health concerns revenue rather than well-being of its clientele. We will be submitting formal
